The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is hiring a Family Services Aide for the Permanency Team to assist Family Services staff who provide foster care and adoption services in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights.
What You Do and How You Do it:
You will assist the Permanency Team in administrative and supportive capacities to ensure federal funding compliance through oversight of Title IV-E requirements for foster care and adoption subsidy. These requirements are not limited to but include, completing Title IV-E application for children entering foster care; monitoring and completing compliance tasks for Title IV-E and non-IV-E cases; monitoring and completing payments for foster care expenditures; monitoring and maintaining records of compliance from external service providers, collaborating with divisions within the agency to ensure compliance. You will also complete, organize and file paperwork; enter information into computer systems. Participate on an emergency shelter team, reporting to shelter duty as required. You will conduct home visits; attend court hearings at the direction of the Family Services Specialist; provide transportation for adults and children in a county vehicle and supervise visitations between parents and children. You will also complete collateral contact with individuals to gather information; complete, organize and file paperwork; enter information into computer systems; and document all case related activities in writing. Perform other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Here’s What You Need:
Associate degree in Human Services or related field; two years of Human Services experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills necessary
  • Experience in Virginia Social Services and/or working with children preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Bilingual skills desired

Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

Realistic Job Preview

This position requires critical thinking skills, exceptional planning and organization skills and attention to detail given the program mandates that must be adhered to. It’s a stressful job with critical outcomes.
