NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$75,900 – $146,200

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking to hire a highly motivated Architect to help stand up a new In-House Design Group! This new team will provide Sandia with the internal capability to self-execute design services at Sandia National Labs in New Mexico. We are looking for a detail orientated and passionate teaming individual to support a dynamic group of Architects and Engineers in the development, design, and construction of building and infrastructure projects!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Partner with other Architects to conduct architectural programming to extract functional and spatial requirements on renovations or reconfiguration for customers.
  • Implement knowledge and understanding of building codes, regulations, and standards including, but not limited to IBC and ADA.
  • Follow contractual requirements; and incorporate performance-based design and customer requirements.
  • Provide assistance for CADD, Revit, or Sketch Up models for design process to convey concepts to customers.
  • Assess capabilities and condition of existing building envelope, equipment, systems, and site infrastructure and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Engineering Corporate Architect on campus, architectural, and interior standards.
  • Apply your understanding and knowledge of construction specifications and construction documents.
  • Assist with the creation of construction documents with associated specifications for constructability, cost estimating, and construction.
  • Ability to coordinate with other areas on projects as required for cohesive design and construction documents.
  • Partner with other Architects to conduct observations of work during construction to monitor compliance with specifications. observe construction for conformance with drawings and specifications.
  • Apply your understanding of systems furniture and interior finishes as applicable to facilities maintainability and maintenance.
  • Provide project support, including timely delivery.
  • Ability to support site master planning, landscape planning and campus design efforts.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited school; or an Associate’s degree in Architecture from an NAAB accredited school plus four (4) years of relevant commercial (non-residential) architecture experience.
  • Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following:
    • Facilities, Commercial, and/or Laboratory design.
    • Electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems and building codes including, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, Life Safety Code, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Architectural Barriers Act.
    • Architectural programming and preparation of bid documents.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master’s degree in Architecture from an ABET accredited institution with at least one year of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in architectural building and infrastructure systems and theory; facility and office design and layout.
  • NCARB Licensed Architect or in the process of seeking to obtain an architectural license.
  • Working knowledge and understanding in Facilities engineering, design and construction, and industry standards/ practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple high rigor tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to develop and nurture internal customer relationships while also working effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

Facilities Design and Engineering, provides engineering support in all disciplines, including energy management for Sandia National Laboratories. By effectively providing all design and engineering services, we deliver a sustainable campus that stimulates employees, fosters interaction and creative solutions and protects the workforce. The in-house studio is aligned to partner customer needs to design projects that proactively support the customer and the corporation. Security Clearance
