Description
The City of Aiken is seeking a Tourism Program Coordinator to join the Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department in the Tourism Division.
Examples of Duties
- Greets public entering facility and offers assistance; answers telephone and takes messages, forwards to appropriate party, or responds to questions, concerns, or complaints from knowledge of departmental procedures
- Takes client information, checks availability, reservations, provides pricing, answers questions from potential parties who want to rent available facilities
- Develops, plans, organizes, and promotes City tours, programs and special events for all ages; books guides, transportation operators, books entertainment, carnival games, food vendors & any other vendors; orders prizes, obtains and schedules volunteers and staff, completes work requests, receipts and deposits money from admission, souvenirs sales, games, etc., and oversees set up and break down of event area
- Enforces the rules and regulations of facilities, programs, and special events; ensures the safety and maintenance of facilities; and recommends recognition and/or disciplinary action as appropriate
- Recruits, trains, and schedules volunteers to support events
- Responds to telephone calls, emails, and/or meets with the public in person to respond to questions and resolve problems or complaints regarding a program or special event
- Ensures the safety and maintenance of facilities; prepares work orders for maintenance division; makes recommendations as needed
- Prepares reports, papers, and other documents appropriate to the division; maintains and updates records and manuals. Projects expenditure sheet data for each program/special event, and prepares final expenditure sheets for each program/special event; evaluates results of completed programs and events to learn what worked and what can be improved
- Attends seminars and studies written materials to maintain knowledge of current practices
- Opening and closing of facilities
- Assists with interviewing, training, and supervision of part-time staff and seasonal staff
- Assists in marketing and promoting the programs and special events of the City of Aiken departments to improve public awareness of and attendance at leisure programs and events, and other related special events
- Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other divisions, outside agencies and groups, and general public contacted in the course of work; provides assistance when requested
- Assists supervisor with budget preparation; orders supplies and equipment; maintains exhibits
- Schedules and reserves facilities; completes agreements, work requests, check requests, and diagrams for set up
- Pursues individual development to continuously improve professional skills, community programs, and maintain knowledge of current practices in the field through training such as workshops, conventions, webinars, and other appropriate venues
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management; Parks, Recreation, and Tourism; Museum Studies; Communications; Public Administration or related field from an accredited college or university
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED & DDC-8 certifications within six (6) months of employment. (Training provided by the City)
- Must have a valid state issued Driver’s license; Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement required within one year of employment
- Analytical skills necessary to plan schedules, evaluate delivery of public services critically, respond to deficiencies by identifying and implementing appropriate corrective actions, and oversee the work of others
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively supervise others, resolve minor complaints, and deal with day-to-day occurrences; must be pleasant and helpful to citizens and courteous of fellow employees while performing duties
- Language skills necessary for the clear verbal communication and creation of concise and clear written communication
- Ability to sustain focus with multiple interruptions
- Ability to provide high level of service to internal and external customers

Part-time Benefits include:
Regular part-time employees accrue vacation and sick leave at 50% of the full-time rate. Vacation will be available for use after one (1) year of employment. Additionally, holidays are paid at 50% of the full-time rate and include the following days:
