The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Experienced Software Engineer to join the Air Dominance Phantom Works team located in Berkeley, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

As an initial assignment these engineers will support the ongoing MQ-28 program. The MQ-28 is a new uncrewed aircraft that will serve as a force multiplier. It’s designed to work as a smart team with existing military aircraft to complement and extend airborne missions. Software is what makes this a reality.

Our software engineers support development and integration of new specialized mission system software into the Boeing MQ-28. Our team is industry leading in the use of modern software development techniques including DevSecOps and containerized services on a tactical platform. We are learning and leading every day to import standard methodologies and apply technical excellence for software that truly matters. We work across multiple Boeing engineering teams as well as customer and vendor engineering counterparts to ensure that our software will support program demonstration achievements.

As part of the Phantom Works organization the engineers of this small team will have the opportunity to follow the technology into an aircraft production program at scale, or to transition to the next new Autonomous program.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. The requirement is to work on-site in Berkeley a minimum of 3 days per week.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle
  • Assist in development of software requirements
  • Develop object-oriented software solutions using C++
  • Agile software development
  • Test your software and assist system level testing to verify correct software functionality
  • Analyze problem reports and troubleshooting software defects
  • Develop leadership skills and experience
  • Perform guiding and coaching of junior software engineers
  • Multi-task between full lifecycle application development, customer support, and training
  • Using the latest software development tools and methodologies to build the best products in industry

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
  • Proficient in C++
  • Working knowledge of software containerization (ie: Docker, Kubernetes)
  • 5 or more years’ proven experience with developing software using Object Oriented principles
  • 3 or more years’ experience working with real-time operating systems
  • Software lifecycle data knowledge to include, coding and unit test creation

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in avionics or mission systems software through the full engineering lifecycle
  • Working knowledge of Open Mission Systems (OMS) architecture
  • Experience in using modern DevSecOps Pipelines
  • Working knowledge of avionics software technologies (Link-16, 1553 databus)
  • Working knowledge of safety critical and certification software requirements (e.g. MIL-STD-882, DO-178C)
  • Solid understanding of data structures, system design and algorithms
  • Communication experience, both written and verbal, with a comfort in public speaking and frequent interactions with external customers

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience)
  • In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Travel:

Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 15%.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Summary pay range for Experienced: $104,550.00 – $141,450.00
