Position description
We are seeking a highly talented and experienced photographer to join our team and capture the impact of philanthropy within the healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will have passion for visual storytelling and the ability to capture moments that highlight the power of giving and the positive impact it has on patients, medical research and capital expansion initiatives.

The Lead Photographer’s role is multi-disciplinary. Incumbent will design, direct, and coordinate, photographic images for Mayo Clinic from pre-planning to post production. Ensuring all photography aligns with the company’s brand and visual identity guidelines.

Serves as an integral team member, who as a representative of the photography unit provides direct customer consultation and project coordination. Works in partnership with a variety of professional colleagues including physicians, administrators, healthcare staff, art directors, writers, designers, and stakeholders, collaborating with them on the appropriate photography application and concept to accompany printed and electronic needs. Ensure that all photographs are of the highest quality, visually appealing and accurately represent subjects and events. Will interact with benefactors and patients alike. Possesses the highest level of technical and creative skills and is known within the work unit as a go-to resource for other photographers. Strong communication skills required along with excellent photography skills, including the ability to take high-quality images in a variety of lighting conditions. Proficiency in digital photography software, such as Adobe Bridge, Lightroom and Photoshop.

Actively engages in the development and mentoring of other photography staff and will assist supervisor with professional development planning. Acts as an informative resource for supervisors and management keeping them abreast of latest technologies, techniques, and trends. Leads teams on larger, more complicated projects, including inter-Divisional projects. Understanding of branding and visual identity guidelines and ability to ensure all photography aligns with the company’s brand. Travel required. Evening and weekend hours will be expected. The images created may appear in internal Mayo publications, intranet and internet web sites, external media, and electronic presentations. Must adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and maintain a high degree of professionalism during stressful situations

The Lead Photographer is active in the development and mentoring of other photographers within the work unit. The Lead Photographer is commonly known as a high-level performer both in volume and level of excellence of work within the unit. The Lead Photographer is an information resource for supervisors and management keeping them abreast of latest technologies, techniques and trends. The Lead Photographer may also be asked to represent their unit by sitting on committees and task forces within the Institution. In addition, the Lead Photographer can also be expected to lead teams on larger, more complicated projects, including inter-Divisional projects.

The Lead Photographer will have dual reporting to the Creative Director within the Department of Development and the Media Production Services Unit leadership.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Photography or Visual Arts with a minimum of eight (8) years’ professional photography experience; or twelve (12) years of relevant experience. Portfolio required for consideration.

Additional qualifications
Must have demonstrated abilities functioning at the senior level and/or experience in a supervisory role.
Prior experience in the medical, scientific, or corporate environment is preferred. Demonstrated ability to effectively translate creative and/or medical concepts into visual photographic reality. Demonstrated understanding of all current photographic equipment and be highly knowledgeable in the use of all photographic formats. Demonstrated in-depth understanding of computer-aided photo image enhancement is essential. Must have an understanding of photographic lighting and techniques for studio, outdoor, location, and journalistic situations. Ability to give and receive clear and concise direction and possess problem solving and decision making skills. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Prefer experience as a professional photographer.
