About this position

This individual will serve as an advisor to senior executives, including the CEO, to help articulate New York Life’s mission, vision, and business objectives to more than 24,000 employees and financial professionals, as well as to customers and the general public. In addition to developing messaging for a wide range of projects, including traditional speeches, PowerPoint presentations, and correspondence, you will also help shape a new, expanded Executive Communications function within the Corporate Communications department.

The ideal candidate for this role is an exceptional writer with strong interpersonal skills who is strategically minded and client oriented.

Key responsibilities

  • Craft speeches, presentations, scripts, collateral, and correspondence for senior executives that align to business objectives and accurately reflect the company’s culture.
  • Be a creative storyteller with a keen understanding of audience, probing for details that will make messages relevant and relatable.
  • Create messaging that takes into consideration current events and the external environment, including industry news, economic trends, and political and regulatory developments.
  • Provide counsel to senior executives on communications best practices, including suggesting appropriate vehicles for different messages and offering guidance on visuals, delivery, and tone.
  • Collaborate effectively across the enterprise, building relationships with partners in Human Resources, Marketing, Compliance, Government Affairs, and Finance, among others, to check facts and make insightful recommendations.
  • Execute with excellence-be well organized, deliver high-quality work on time and according to expectations.
  • Work with a high degree of discretion.
  • Some travel required.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional writing experience (Corporate Communications, PR, Journalism, Television/Media).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills (samples of your work, in addition to a writing challenge, will be required during the interview process)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust with senior leaders in a corporate setting.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Strong PowerPoint and visual storytelling skills a plus.
  • Experience in the finance/insurance industry a plus.
  • Collaborative team player with experience developing communications strategies for a range of audiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Hybrid environment: office Tuesday-Thursday, working from home Mondays and Fridays.

Salary range: $115,000-$175,000

Overtime eligible: Exempt

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes

Sales bonus eligible: No
