Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance Division oversees employee policies, benefits and programs; creates campus-wide opportunities for compliance training, engagement, and learning; and advances Carolina’s mission to provide a welcoming, equitable, and stimulating work and educational environment for all. These two offices work to implement strategies for supporting and enriching Carolina’s workforce, complying with EO/ADA laws, and enhancing inclusiveness across all parts of our campus. The HR/EOC Communications unit is charged with clearly, consistently and appropriately communicating to campus and beyond to build knowledge and understanding on these topics.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Events and Special Programs Coordinator will manage the vision, planning, and implementation of a variety of in-person and virtual events, fund raisers, and in-service employee recognition program presented by the Human Resources and Equal Opportunity & Compliance to promote and recognize employees, students, and the community. The Events and Special Programs Coordinator will collaborate with senior University administrative offices, schools, divisions, and units across campus to ensure that events appropriately represent the University, as well as work with vendors directly, as needed. This position will manage event timelines and budgets, select appropriate promotional giveaway items, and work closely with clients and members of the HR/EOC Communications team on appropriately promoting, marketing and advertising events. This position occasionally requires evening and weekend hours.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
This position requires creativity and vision, along with supreme attention to detail. Must have a strong understanding of event and project management and excellent ability to conceptualize, organize, implement and manage all events and project components. Must be able to handle sensitive information and have a strong knowledge of appropriate protocol and diplomatic skills. Must be able to administer budgets and organize efficient and cost-effective events and programs. Requires excellent communication skills. Experience with Qualtrics highly encouraged.
Sound judgment, the ability to think and work under pressure, excellent communication skills, ability to work autonomously and self-manage, as well as part of a team, are essential for this position.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
One year of large scale (100 – 7,000 attendees) event planning experience.
