Environmental Modeling Lead

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Environmental Modeling Lead, are to:

  • Lead a team of four to 10 direct reports with responsibility for directing their technical skills and personal development.
  • Drive and develop the strategy for utilizing environmental models to drive a digital twin and build the framework to both create a tailored in silico prescription based upon product concept and enable environmental and climate change prediction models to support Breeding and Crop Science.
  • Work cross-functionally across Breeding, MD and DFS to ensure a streamlined testing plan that enables key Breeding decisions as well as supports the needs of partner organizations.
  • Partner with MD and DFS to reimagine and strategically shift the wholistic Crop Science AI environmental strategy as data collection is enhanced and new insights are derived.
  • Build and execute a plan for Digital Twin both using current Breeding metrics as well as developing novel approaches.
  • Manage an annual expense of two-three million dollars.
  • Partner with teams across the enterprise to deploy models to production, including production ready code, data I/O, stakeholder engagement and training, long term plans for support and monitoring sustainable performance.
  • Provide thought leadership within APD FDS leadership including but not limited to best hiring practices, data science career architecture, external data science collaborations, data science branding, visibility and data science best practices.
  • Engage and drive collaborations within breeding to ensure alignment with engineering, IT, environmental modeling and digital phenotyping.
  • Build upon external partnerships to further enhance optimization of testing within Breeding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science/machine learning, physics, bioinformatics or a related field
  • Profound experience in academia or business environments in Data Science, Machine Learning or Advanced Analytics developing, validating, deploying and maintaining mathematical models
  • Understanding of one or more of the following areas: advanced statistical data analysis, machine learning techniques, Bayesian methods, MCMC, neural networks, LLMs, Ensemble methods, Gaussian processes and related topics
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python
  • Proficiency using query languages such as SQL
  • Experience using cloud services (AWS, GCP or Azure) for data analysis and modeling
  • Experience with common data science toolkits and data visualization tools
  • Experience collaborating to achieve project objectives – delivery dates, cost objectives, quality objectives, business customer satisfaction objectives -Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation for mathematical models
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Experience leading scientists directly or through influence;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work closely with diverse teams with varying priorities to coordinate work flow and drive it to its conclusion;
  • Project management experience; Influencing multidisciplinary teams.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $ 140,000 to $200,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
