An Act Driving Clean Energy and Offshore Wind passed in 2022 requires reporting of annual energy usage of buildings above 20,000 square feet in the Commonwealth. This internship position will support the Energy Efficiency Division of the Department of Energy Resources (DOER) in implementing the law including creating a covered building list, drafting regulations and developing the data transfer process between utilities, building owners and DOER.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in coordination with entities involved in setting up and maintaining a database of buildings covered by the law and their associated energy usage.
- Conduct research on building energy reporting regulations implemented in other states and cities in the country. This will include collection and analysis of primary and secondary data about regulations (interviews, online documents, etc) and review of different platforms and protocols to gather and report building energy data.
- Participate in internal and external meetings
- Assist in drafting regulations for building energy reporting
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Interest in building energy and policy
- Coursework in physics, engineering, math/science or similar
- Good analytical skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office – particularly Excel and Powerpoint
- Experience with spatial analysis software preferred
- Interest and knowledge of database management is a plus
Hours per week:
Full time – 37.5 hours per week.
This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule of going into the office in Boston a minimum of one day per week.
Other Relevant Information:
Contracted Student Internship compensation will be up to $21/hour for College Undergraduate Students and up to $34/hour for Graduate Students.
Internship duration June – August 2023
