The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.

The Office of Communications works collaboratively with other ODH Offices and Bureaus to help them disseminate important public health information to internal and external stakeholders and the general public through print, electronic, video and web communications, through the news media and over social media.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provides computer-generated graphic design and visual communications services for the Ohio Department of Health and recommends policies and procedures regarding graphic/design hardware and software, media materials and printing methodologies.
  • Adapts to processes to complete tasks, understanding the challenges of our multiple technology platforms.
  • Works independently as well as cooperatively with team to meet deadlines, which may include several simultaneous projects.
  • Produces detail-oriented work while working with the Office of Communications team, fellow Creative Services teammates, and program staff.
  • Takes digital photographs for use in electronic designs when assigned to do so by supervisor.
  • Plans, develops, and designs for the Office of Communications marketing communications items including, but not limited to the following: reports, brochures, newsletters, fact sheets, web content, forms, posters, presentations, pamphlets, signage, logos, floor and table displays, invitations, and public awareness campaigns materials using Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Consults with and advises Communications Public Information Officers to provide technical and creative assistance in the development of program publications and campaigns that meet department standards and policies.
  • Consults supervisor to ensure that the State of Ohio Branding Guidelines and ODH Style Guidelines are met with all projects.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots computer support services as they pertain to graphic/design environment in the iOS or Windows computer environment.
  • Converts files from different platforms into appropriate formats.

Qualifications

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in visual communications with emphasis on graphic design/industrial design &/or fine arts;
  • 24 months training or 24 months experience in website/web page creation, design &./or development.

-Or

  • Completion of associate core program in graphic visual communication technology or multimedia production technology;
  • 36 months training or 36 months experience in website/web page creation, design &/or development.

-Or

  • 36 months training or 36 months experience in electronic graphic design;
  • 12 months experience with hyper-text markup language for website/web page design &/or development.

-Or

  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Applications of those who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in visual communications with emphasis on graphic design, digital design &/or fine arts
  • Experience designing and developing materials for printed, interactive or multi-media products
  • Experience working with Adobe creative suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Experience with 3d and animation design programs (i.e., Cinema C4d, After Effects, or Animator 2)
  • Experience working independently and with a team to meet deadlines, which may include several simultaneous projects
  • Experience producing detail-oriented work in collaboration with teammates
  • Experience taking digital photographs for use in electronic designs
  • Experience adhering to branding and style guidelines, and other policies
  • Experience with converting file types to the appropriate file type, and working with wide-format printers
