Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities. We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner’s engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Our engineering teams bring power projects to life across North America in the following areas:

  • Environmental retrofits
  • Renewables and new technology
  • Water/wastewater

Location

This position is based out of our San Diego, CA office.

Responsibilities
• Prioritize work and manage engineering tasks for multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
• Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with internal and external clients in a positive, collaborative and team-building manner.
• Ability to be well rounded and work with others, need to be the middle link that connects management, engineering and clients together for successful projects, and office moral.
• Perform engineering design and prepare design deliverables for underground transmission lines including plan and profiles, ampacity calculations, pulling calculations, material selection, duct bank design, and construction specifications in compliance with technical, safety and environmental standards and policies.
• Review and approve drawings and material lists developed by others.
• Develop project estimates and schedules, evaluate design options and criteria for technical merit, and conduct field visits to verify routing conditions and parameters.
• Review manufacturer’s shop drawings and use pertinent information in the production of engineering design deliverables.
• Develop construction work packages for the electric underground distribution system using various software systems and construction standards

Qualifications
• Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 0 – 3 years’ experience in underground transmission engineering
• Understanding of IEC, ICEA, AEIC, NEC, NESC, IEEE standards
• Solid understanding of HV/MV Power Systems and Electromagnetic Theory.

Preferred Experience
• Understanding of thermodynamics and able to perform cable ampacity calculations using Cymcap program.
• Understanding of cable laying mechanism and able to perform pulling tension calculations using Pull-Planner program.
• Experience of working or internship with major electrical utility companies.
• Field construction experience in power industry projects.
• Experience with engineering design software; AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bluebeam, MathCAD etc.
• Worked with several aspects of project execution; client interaction; proposal and cost estimate preparations; subcontract management; feasibility studies; conceptual and detailed design; construction support; manufacturing inspection and factory acceptance test witness; project close-out.
• Basic knowledge of engineering economics, surveying, geographical information systems, electrical engineering, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and environmental and legal regulations
• EIT certification strongly preferred.

Base Compensation: $60,826 – $91,240
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
