I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The mission of the Division of Safety and Security is to provide a safe and secure campus environment for all members of the university community. This mission is achieved through active participation of all university members and partnerships with local law enforcement and community partners. The George Washington University Division of Safety and Security aims to be the nation’s premier provider of safety and security preparedness for an institution of higher education.

The Driver, GW Safe Ride supports the campus transportation driving service by operating Safe Ride vehicles, driving sedans and 12 passenger vans, and/or monitoring the escort service phones, and directing requests to on-duty drivers.

The core responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Drive Safe Ride vehicles that transport GW students, faculty, staff, and guests to desired locations within the service borders.
  • Monitor the escort service during the hours of operation.
  • Delegate escort service requests to on-duty drivers in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain written records of all escort transactions in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the department.
  • Ensure that vehicle(s) are sufficiently fueled and that vehicle performance problems are immediately reported to a supervisor when performing driver duties.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Impeccable driving record.
  • Able to safely operate a 12 passenger van and pass a road test to verify skill level prior to hire.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

Typical Hiring Range
