Department Overview

PG&E’s Underground Program organization is working to reduce wildfire risk each day as we underground 10,000 miles of distribution lines. We are responsible for working across all internal teams and engaging external stakeholders to support successfully meeting our goals and reducing wildfire risk in our hometowns. We work in an exciting and fast-paced environment.

The Undergrounding Contracting and Commercial team will lead the development, resourcing and execution of commercial, contracting, and sourcing strategies for services, materials, and any other resources needed to support PG&E’s Undergrounding program portfolio. The team will engage with internal stakeholders to understand and confirm needs and implement sourcing strategies in partnership with PG&E’s gas and electric work and resource planning organizations to meet those needs. Similarly, this team will lead PG&E’s engagement and partnership with third party providers of construction resources, materials or other services needed to support the Undergrounding program.

Position Summary

This individual will take an end-to end approach to our undergrounding work portfolio planning process and will embrace big ideas but also the small details and rigorous process steps that bring those improvement ideas from concept to reality. The position will also need to partner with multiple teams, departments, third parties and others to ensure that the underground portfolio is resourced from an internal and external perspective to maximize the efficiencies within both the undergrounding portfolio and the overall electric and gas construction portfolios. This position will plan and monitor the entire underground work plan portfolio of jobs. This individual will need to show significant flexibility, intellectual curiosity and a mindset that embraces both breakthrough-thinking and process adherence. It must work collaboratively with stakeholders to plan and track the execution of work related to the overall portfolio. This position will establish methods to collect data from leadership, finance, project management, operations, and other stakeholders for analysis and utilize customized software and ERP systems to manage portfolio/work plan data and drive the adoption of new planning systems and related processes.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

Bay Area Minimum: $128,000

Bay Area Maximum: $218,000

California Minimum: $122,000

California Maximum: $207,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Applies high level expertise, works independently, and applies breadth and depth of knowledge to the most complex, largest scope and highest impact work planning processes and challenges. May work on both annual and long-term planning issues and projects, analyzing situations with many abstract variables, using a holistic, big picture approach.
  • Develops, influences, and governs planning processes for multiple major work categories in the assigned department. Solves unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions.
  • Develops integrated planning methods and systems that have wide ranging impact and application across multiple departments. Oversees the consolidation of information to develop integrated work plans, project updates, and presentation materials for regular department work plan meetings and leadership teams.
  • Works with executives and senior management to support strategic planning, decision making, and to address high level work planning prioritization.
  • Leads peers and stakeholders to develop prioritized and optimized long range and/or annual portfolio/work plans for multiple work categories. May oversee forecasting activities and ensure alignment with line of business deadlines. Gains buy-in and confirms plans can be executed with stakeholder organization.
  • Develops appropriate monitoring mechanisms and metrics to understand actuals vs. plan. Prepares regular reports regarding annual and/or long-term work plan/project portfolio completion and issues. Determines causes of issues and recommends solutions. Presents to senior leadership, Director level or higher.
  • Leads cross-department continuous process improvement efforts to improve efficiencies and quality.
  • Identifies needs, develops ideas and establishes system requirements for work planning tools. May plan and implement the delivery of user training on systems/tools.
  • Manages major cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • May participate in industry benchmarking, seeking ideas and opportunities from other utilities for large scale improvements

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 10 years
  • Experience in strategic planning, or other related

Desired:

  • Advanced qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, knowledgeable in collecting data, organizing, synthesizing, reporting, recognizing trending and anomalies, drawing conclusions and developing recommendations.
  • Subject matter expertise in project/work scheduling concepts, methods and practices.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise of business and or industry drivers to help influence decision making.
  • Strong financial acumen and capital expense budgeting knowledge.
  • Project management skills to lead large complex projects.
  • Team leadership and effective collaboration skills.
  • Advanced influence and negotiation skills to gain agreement from leaders inside and outside of the department.
  • Advanced technical skills using systems and applications such as SAP Work Management, SAP Business Warehouse (BW), Primavera, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint to develop reports, analyses, and deliver presentations
