Job Summary
Will oversee daily operations and services, coordinate the activities of assigned staff of Undergraduate Advising for the Bass School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. Reports directly to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies for BAHT ( ADU )
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in counseling or a related field and 8 years experience working with college students in an academic counseling or advising capacity; or Master’s degree & six years’ experience as described above.
Preferred Education and Experience
– Master’s degree and at least six years experience working with college students in an academic counseling or advising capacity;
– Superior attention to detail. Strong management skills. Strong organization, multi-tasking and priority setting abilities. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director will:
Work closely with BAHT Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies ( ADU ) to resolve individual students’ problems and concerns, including:
• Assists with undergraduate academic actions, including drops, withdrawals, probations, suspensions, and readmissions
• Facilitates requests for waivers or exceptions to degree plans
• Alerts ADU to students requiring interventions or support services
• May represent ADU and have signature authority as determined by BAHT ADU
• Mediates conflict between advising staff and students
Work closely with BAHT Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies ( ADU ) to manage course schedule and catalog revisions, including:
• Advises ADU regarding student population and course needs
– Assists with course scheduling entry in Orion
• Monitors BAHT course enrollment numbers
• Prepares, analyzes, and distributes advising reports
Manage daily operations of BAHT Undergraduate Advising, including:
• Ensures that best advising practices are maintained
• Cooperates and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff in various campus offices as well as a diverse student population in providing for academic advising needs of individuals or groups of students.
• Demonstrates ability to work as a team member.
• Demonstrates understanding of university policies and procedures, academic requirements, and campus resources.
• Trains academic advisors and staff and assists with coordination of the hiring process with ADU
• Hires, trains, and manages BAHT Undergraduate Student Ambassadors
• Clarifies policies and procedures for advising staff
• Creates and maintains school advising forms and documents
• Updates degree plans and two plus two transfer guides
• Supports and supervises advisor-led programs and initiatives
• Assists with overflow academic advising as needed
• Presents budget requests based on advising needs
• Chairs weekly staff meetings for Undergraduate Advisors and monthly staff meetings including student ambassadors
Serve as a liaison between BAHT undergraduate advising and campus offices, such as the Registrar, Financial Aid, Bursar, and Undergraduate education
• Participates in university committees, including the Undergraduate Advising Directors Committee, Non-Academic Withdrawal Committee, and Hiring Committee for other Schools’ advising positions
• Represents UTD and BAHT at various functions, which may include UT Dallas recruiting events

This role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business needs and manager approval.
