Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC seeks a Director of New Leader Development to join the Leadership Development Team on the Knowledge and Learning team. The Director of New Leader Development is responsible for building relationships with headquarters and school based leaders, leading year-long cohort development opportunities for new vice-principals, deans and coaches at KIPP DC, as well as providing individual leadership coaching to many of these new leaders. This individual will also design and execute ongoing development opportunities for more experienced school leaders and other programs on the Knowledge and Learning Team . The Director of New Leader Programming and Support will work closely with members of the Leadership Development and Talent teams in order to support larger school leader development and selection initiatives. This exempt role will report to the Managing Director of Knowledge and Learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Rising Leaders Cohort – 30%:

  • Context: Rising Leader at KIPP DC are primarily first year vice principals.
  • Design, execute and lead the Rising Leaders cohort including planning year long scope and sequence, staying up to date and informed on Instructional content, shifts and initiatives at KIPP DC, delivering professional development, designing and providing feedback on Rising Leder projects, working with external facilitators, collaborating with school leader managers and overseeing the coaching of all cohort members.

New Dean & Coach Cohort – 30%:

  • Design, execute and lead the New Dean & Coach Cohort including planning yearlong scope and sequence, staying up to date and informed on Instructional content, shifts and initiatives at KIPP DC, delivering professional development, working with external facilitators, collaborating with school leader managers and overseeing the coaching of all cohort members.

Leadership Development & Network Support-40%

  • Play integral role in the design of the leadership development team’s vision, long term plan and foundational structures and on the school leader selection working group including drafting policies and one-pagers and participating in pieces of the selection process design and execution
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, annual updates, and implementation of KIPP DC Leadership Toolkit
  • Plan, lead and support programming for other Knowledge and Learning programs (i.e. Teacher Leader Academy, CTR, etc.)

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Post-Bachelor’s degree (ex. Masters’ or professional school equivalent) preferred
  • Minimum of four years lead teaching experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience in school leadership
  • Minimum of three years of experience coaching adults in a school setting
  • Strong cultural competency skills, including ability to communicate and work effectively and cultivate relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Strong professional development design and facilitation skills
  • Strong leadership coaching skills and experience
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to take initiative, receive feedback, and seek out creative ideas
  • Strong time management skills and a detail and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for helping develop and support the best possible school leaders to support the best possible teachers to best support and lead our students

Additional Information

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $112,042-$138,403. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility. This role will have approximately 20% flexibility to work remotely.
