Job Summary/Basic Function
We seek applicants with strong communication skills and the ability to think critically and make appropriate judgement calls. Individual will provide academic advisement to students majoring within the Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities. Academic advising includes assisting students with admissions processes, providing information on financial aid options, advise on academic program requirements (including General Education requirements), university, college and departmental policies and procedures and academic career planning. The Academic Advisor will help students resolve challenges regarding enrollment, retention, persistence to graduation and refer students to other WSU support services to help them achieve their academic and career goals. This individual will assist in various student recruitment and orientation events at the university, college and departmental level, and is expected to work closely with the Arts & Humanities Career Counselor and assist other members of the advising team and dean’s office staff as assigned. The Advisor is expected to participate in the University Academic Advising Council and may be asked to serve on various university, college and departmental committees. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- One year full-time college employment experience, preferably in enrollment services (academic advisement, registration, admissions or financial aid), student services or the equivalent.
- Experience and proficiency with computer applications including word processing, email, Internet, and spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic, career and/or internship advising experience
- Fluency in Spanish
- Facility with software tools such as Banner
