The Great Northwest Athletic Conference, based in Portland, Ore., is accepting applications for an 11-month (July 15, 2023-June 10, 2024) internship. This internship is designed to expose the successful candidate to all aspects of intercollegiate athletic administration at the Division II conference level, with a primary focus on digital media and championship management. This position requires the ability to work weekends, evenings, and some holidays, and travel to meetings and championship events.
DIGITAL MEDIA RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, creating, and implementing the conference’s annual social media plan (in coordination with the assistant commissioner for communications), coordinating weekly student-athlete and other spotlight profiles, creating weekly schedule graphics, and development of social media campaigns to highlight and create engagement for conference initiatives (such as championships, D2 Day, diversity, equity & inclusion, and others).
CHAMPIONSHIPS RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as conference ticketing and promotion lead at GNAC championship events, including oversight of online ticket sales. Assist conference championships coordinator in logistical preparation for championship events, including staffing, event operations, and game management. Create post-championship video content.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate NLI Program, including validating and processing NLIs; monitoring; assisting with tracking conference hotel program; and assisting with awards distribution, conference ID creation, and other tasks essential for office functionality. Assist with the coordination of conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee including meetings and other committee functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required. Successful candidates must be highly organized and detail-oriented. Must be able to multi-task in a moderate- to fast-paced work environment and the ability to manage and prioritize several ongoing projects. One to two years of related experience in a college athletic department is preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must have a working knowledge of social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube). Experience with Adobe Photoshop and video editing platforms (such as iMovie or Adobe Premiere) is a plus. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to travel and work nights and weekends according to conference schedules required.
This is an 11-month part-time appointment (July 15, 2023-June 10, 2024). Hourly wage is $17.00 per hour. Approximate hours per week will be up to 40 but might vary depending on schedule demands. This is a temporary position with no medical insurance or retirement benefits. This position is eligible for paid professional development opportunities (e.g., NACDA, NCAA Convention, Women Leaders, Conference Management Council Meetings).
