Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated attorney with extensive prosecutorial experience to join her management team as Deputy Division Chief of the Gaming Enforcement Division within the Criminal Bureau.
Primary Duties : The Deputy Division Chief will assist the Division Chief in managing the Division’s Assistant Attorneys General, investigators, and support staff located in Boston and Springfield. The Deputy Division Chief will also assist the Division Chief to carry out the statutory mandates of the Division to: (1) enforce all criminal violations of the gaming statutes; (2) receive and take appropriate action on referrals for criminal prosecution from the Gaming Commission or other law enforcement agencies; (3) provide assistance to the Gaming Commission with the promulgation of rules and regulations; (4) avoid duplication of duties between the Gaming Commission and the Division; and (5) recommend persons to be prohibited from gaming. Specifically, in carrying out such mandates, the Deputy Division Chief w ill assist in overseeing the investigation and prosecution of criminal conduct related to expanded gaming in the Commonwealth, including violations of G.L. c. 23K, G.L. c. 23N, G.L. c. 267A, and G.L. c. 271, and other illegal activity, such as gaming-related financial crime, organized crime, criminal usury, extortion, corruption, and money laundering. Likewise, the Deputy Division Chief will help to oversee civil investigation and enforcement of such gaming laws.
Supervisory responsibilities will include overseeing the investigation and prosecution of cases, reviewing search warrants sought in connection with investigations, reviewing and editing internal memoranda, and mentoring Division staff and assisting them with skills development. The Deputy Division Chief will also handle his or her caseload of primarily gaming-related matters from investigation through sentencing. The work involves extensive collaboration with law enforcement, grand jury investigations throughout the Commonwealth, complex motion practice, and frequent appearances before the Commonwealth’s District and Superior Courts for motions, pleas, and trials.
The Gaming Enforcement Division is a statewide division, and the position requires a candidate with a proven track record of versatility and adaptability. Division members work closely with the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit assigned to both the Office of the Attorney General and the Gaming Commission, as well as federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, which demands a demonstrated history of successful partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. The Deputy Division Chief will be expected to communicate effectively with outside agencies, and to maintain and foster those relationships.
Location :This position may be based in the Boston Office or Springfield Regional Office. Our hybrid model allows some remote workdays for this position.

Qualifications:
Position Requirements : Applicants must be practicing attorneys and members of the Massachusetts bar. Must possess the ability to handle a large and advanced caseload and have substantial litigation experience (seven years or more) in state criminal practice, including grand jury investigations, motion practice, and trials. A strong background in handling complex and long-term investigations and prosecution is preferred, with extensive experience and knowledge in reviewing search warrants and other legal memoranda. This position requires prior management and/or supervision experience and the ability to manage a diverse staff with varying levels of experience and responsibilities. Additionally, we seek a candidate who exercises good judgment, thinks strategically and practically, has strong legal research and writing skills, is a confident decision maker, and wants to lead a busy team that investigates and prosecutes a wide variety of criminal cases. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required, as travel is necessary to various courts and offices throughout the Commonwealth. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, including historically marginalized communities, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment .
