HDR is looking for a Tech-Sector Business Development Leader whose client focus will focus on datacenters (hyperscale and colocation) across the North America. The ideal candidate for this position will be based in the east region, but other applicants across the country will be considered. This roll is an opportunity to join one of the strongest and most comprehensive datacenter practice in the A&E industry. The successful candidate must poses the drive, experience and charisma needed to secure a robust client base and expand upon HDR’s reputation within this markets.

Critical to this role is a proven history and commitment to developing and nurturing strong relationships with multiple technology clients. Although the geographic focus of this position will be the US East initially, client assignments throughout North America are likely. Beginning with relationship building/pre-positioning activities, and the subsequent effort to drive successful proposals will be essential in this roll.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Sector Directors, CDL’s and local leadership to drive the growth of new business through new client relationships, while also continuing to focus on growing our scope of service offering to existing clients.
  • Developing strategies, capture plans and initiating/building relationships with key clients.
  • Driving and supporting the development of qualifications packages and proposal submittals.
  • Collaborating with Operations leadership to lead pursuit go/no go and strategy discussions.
  • Directing interview strategies and the successful implementation of those strategies.
  • Leveraging existing client relationships from outside the region as a means to jumpstart business development activities.
  • Serving as client manager for select key clients.
  • Possessing and maintaining knowledge of client needs and plans, tracking current and trending business environment, and maintaining awareness of client assessment of HDR in order to anticipate, track and capture contract assignments.
  • Tracking upcoming contracts/projects. Working closely with the pursuit leadership team to develop a winning strategy.
  • Monitoring and managing assigned marketing budget(s).
  • Working in partnership with others (including other Sectors and BG’s) to drive new business prospects and existing client opportunities.
  • Participating in HDR’s Annual Strategy/Planning activities – and leading the efforts to develop strategies for the Industrial and Tech Sector.
  • Recruiting new talent to ensure that HDR continues as an industry leader.
  • Monitor and track projects for successful execution inclusive of commercial, technical and financial aspects.
  • Work with BG leadership, Local Operations, Integrated Delivery leadership to continue to build and strengthen general contractor (GC) relationships and support different contracting strategies (whereas it makes strategic sense to support clientele)

All of HDR’s services are to be leveraged in this business development roll with a focus on datacenters, but also to support developing business with other client including: semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, corporate campuses, site selection and telecommunications facilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in discipline related to the position (Engineering/Architecture)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the datacenters, equipment providers, and/or A/E consulting.
  • Must include a significant Tech client portfolio
  • Experience with Power and Water systems as well as site selection a plus
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to drive the success of project teams.
  • Willingness to travel (25-40%)
  • Proven track record of sales success.
  • Planning & Budgeting experience
  • Staff management, mentoring and general leadership skills
  • Experience with driving successful project execution metrics with large clients
  • Experience with negotiating commercial terms with clients and mitigation of risk exposure to consultant.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $138,163.00 – $197,375.00 annually/hourly depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
