Our Organization and Mission: The Office represents the State of Florida in state and federal civil and criminal courts, from trial courts to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Pay: $50,000 – $60,000 annually commensurate with experience

Position Summary: The Florida Office of the Attorney General is seeking a highly talented, self-motivated, and analytical minded team member to investigate matters assigned to the Cyber Fraud team. Located within the Consumer Protection Division in Tampa, the selected candidate will investigate cyber fraud and related matters for civil enforcement and will advise and assist on referrals to Florida Department of Law Enforcement and other agencies. This position will develop partnerships with other agencies relating to cyber fraud crimes and civil violations, establish lines of communication with local, state, and federal law enforcement and other enforcement agencies, and may serve on federal and state task forces as appropriate.

This position requires prior end-to-end cyber fraud investigative and complex fraud experience. Interested candidates are required to be self-starters with the ability to think critically and strategically when handling investigations, seeing beyond the initial facts presented and reviewing information thoroughly and in a highly organized manner to drive an investigation to conclusion. Ideal applicants will have the ability to operate independently, manage multiple competing priorities with difficult deadlines, and exhibit a sense of urgency when necessary.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus 3 years of experience conducting criminal, civil, or administrative investigations or examinations, which must include a minimum of two years of experience with complex financial investigations or analysis, online scams or cybercrime investigations, or computer forensic investigations. A master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the 3 years of required experience. Investigative experience in fraud or white-collar crimes, financial investigations, cybercrime investigations, or computer forensics may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or other related degree
  • 3 or more years of experience with cyber related investigations
  • High-level technology skills and extensive education or training in technology and computer investigations
  • Familiarity in the use of open-source intelligence (OSINT)
  • Familiarity with computer and network security
  • Experience identifying evidence to support civil litigation or criminal prosecution
  • 3 or more years of experience investigating complex financial crimes
  • Familiarity with the collection and development of digital evidence
  • Familiarity in the storage of and chain of custody for digital evidence

The Work You Will Do:

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform analysis and conduct investigations in the Cyber Fraud area which involve matters such as financial fraud, telecommunication, technology-based scams, unfair and deceptive business practices, cybersecurity, antitrust, RICO, SPAM, Botnet usage for denial of services, civil forfeiture, scheme(s) to defraud, and civil theft cases.
  • Examine cybersecurity incident responses and forensics reports, as well as corporate security policies and procedures.
  • Analyze and collect background or investigative information to assist Cyber Fraud Statewide Prosecutors with technology-related issues.
  • Interact with state and federal law enforcement and consumer protection agencies on cyber fraud and IT-related issues of regional, state, and national impact.
  • Review and evaluate consumer complaints to determine if a violation of Florida law has occurred.
  • Locate and identify concealed profits in trusts, domestic and foreign corporations, banking institutions, peer-to-peer money transmitters, cryptocurrency wallets, real and personal property, and any other method or means of concealment.
  • Leverage commercially available and open-source intelligence (OSINT) to perform investigative analysis.
  • Prepare documents, exhibits, schedules, reports and other pertinent information for use in cases litigated in courts of law; Prepare investigative reports for attorneys, participate in case development with attorneys, prepare investigative affidavits, review witness affidavits and assist with preparation for witness examinations; Attend depositions, take sworn statements, administer oaths and interview witnesses; Assist with developing computer-generated charts and graphics; Input statistical data into computers and aid in design of specific computer programs.
  • Perform asset tracing of profits received from unlawful activities through all financial conduits.
  • Aid in drafting investigative subpoenas, pleadings, affidavits, and discovery requests.
  • Draft inquiries for information to other law enforcement agencies, as well as responding to requests for information.
  • Assist attorneys with special assignments, which may require extended hours and/or travel outside the worksite.
  • Testify in court hearings, trials, and depositions regarding investigations which they conducted.
  • Coordinate and conduct training on cyber and financial investigations for the consumer protection division, local law enforcement and other partner agencies.
  • Perform other related work as required.
