Job Title: Lead Custodian/Maintenance Person

Job Summary:
The Lead Custodian/Maintenance Person plays a critical role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall functionality of the school within Darien School District 61. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent attention to detail, and a solid understanding of custodial and maintenance practices. The Lead Custodian/Maintenance Person oversees a team of custodial staff, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards. They collaborate closely with school administrators, and staff, to maintain a conducive, clean learning environment for students, faculty, and visitors.
Reports To: Director of Building and Grounds/ Building Principal
Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance, and direction to custodial team members, ensuring that all custodial tasks are performed effectively and efficiently.
- Oversee routine maintenance activities, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, snow removal, and general repairs. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors as needed.
- Establish and maintain cleaning schedules and standards for the school district facilities, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Monitor custodial and maintenance supplies, equipment, and tools. Coordinate with procurement staff to ensure an adequate supply of materials for custodial and maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with the school and district administration to develop and implement safety and security protocols. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and address them promptly.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the custodial and maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Coordinate with relevant personnel to address urgent issues and ensure minimal disruption to daily operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and custodial activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs. Generate reports as required by school administration.
- Stay updated on relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to custodial and maintenance practices in educational settings. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in custodial or maintenance fields is a plus.
- Proven experience in custodial and/or maintenance roles.
- At least 3-5 years in a supervisory or lead position preferred.
- Strong knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning techniques, and maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to custodial and maintenance work in educational settings.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive work environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using basic computer applications and maintenance management systems.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12-month year.

- Hourly rate as established by the Board. ?Starting rate of $18.00 per hour.
