Job Summary:
Recreation & Wellbeing (Rec Well) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is searching for a creative and innovative multimedia designer to lead our work in photography, video, and digital integration. We just opened the Bakke (BAH-kee) Recreation & Wellbeing Center in April 2023. This innovative state-of-the-art facility provides square footage for wellbeing services (including spaces to support mental health) and physical activity. The first of its kind on the UW-Madison campus. Bakke is the second building project of the Rec Well master plan passed in March 2014 which allowed a comprehensive overhaul of recreational and wellbeing spaces on campus including two outdoor turf fields and the construction of another major facility, Nicholas Recreation Center, on the Southeast side of campus.

The Coordinator of Digital Media is a full-time employee under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Marketing & Communications. This person will provide design expertise and support to promote our programs, services, and facilities. They will also be responsible for interpreting concepts and leading design and creation of photography, videography, and digital media to create materials that move Badgers to play hard, get fit, and live well. In addition, they will also directly supervise a team of 3-5 student employees.
Responsibilities: Designs and develops multimedia solutions and materials in collaboration with other content creators, adhering to project timelines and developing and posting content for a specified unit in support of visually and contextually communicating messages aligned with unit strategy.

  • 50% Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and executes multimedia solutions for a specific work unit that may be used through various platforms in collaboration with stakeholders and other content creation staff
  • 10% Contributes to the development of communication, event, and marketing materials to fit into the overall strategy of the work unit
  • 10% Tracks and manages timelines and deliverables related to communication projects
  • 15% Directs operational activities for multiple communication platforms and posts content within a work unit that may include websites, social media, written/illustrative communications, and online tools
  • 10% Develops communication, event, and marketing strategies and materials to align with the overall work unit strategic initiative
  • 5% Develops and facilitates trainings for staff and customers regarding technology options and best practices

Tasks:
Design Content: Creation, Planning, and Strategy

1. Plan, create, and design content for all our platforms: email, social, website, mobile app, print, etc.

2. Simultaneously manage and track deadlines for multiple multimedia projects and deliverables.

3. Research and propose designs that further our mission, vision, and values.

4. Identify opportunities for growth by staying aware of current trends, practices, and technologies.

5. Work closely with our Coordinators of Graphic Design and Communications & Outreach to deliver a consistent brand message across all platforms.

6. Work closely with the Associate Director of Marketing & Communications to create and execute annual, semesterly, and topic/theme centric marketing.

7. Act as the Marketing & Communications liaison for several departments, track notes for meetings, and share updates a Marketing & Communications Department meetings.

Asset Management

1. Manage updates and licensing for any video/photography related software and technology.

2. Collaborate with the Coordinator of Graphic Design to create, schedule, and deploy design content for 25-50 digital display screens across two facilities.

3. Maintain a library of all video and photo brand assets through an internal shared network drive and Adobe CC Library.

4. Work with our Associate Director of Marketing & Communications to ensure any external design content from our partners and sponsors is correctly maintained and displayed.

Student Team Collaboration

1. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate our student digital media team.

2. Plan agendas and lead biweekly meetings and workshops for student digital media designers.

3. Work closely with Coordinators of Digital Media and Communications & Outreach to plan and lead monthly student all-staff meetings, manage office hours schedule, and provide development opportunities for student employees.

Qualifications:

– Professional photography and/or video experience in an agency, business, or educational setting.
– Advanced design skills and a strong portfolio that demonstrates creativity, originality, and results-driven marketing or advertising projects.
– Must be able to succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced workplace, and have strong organizational skills
– Ability to conceptualize and execute creative concepts that communicate ideas clearly and engage audiences effectively.
– High level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator.
– Ability to work independently and cooperatively on complex projects, handling multiple priorities and tight deadlines in a detail-oriented environment.
– Desire to learn, grow, and create a culture of health and wellbeing at a Big Ten institution.

This position requires a majority of work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location up to one day per week, if desired.

The starting salary for this position is $50,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
