Scheduled Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Evergy is seeking an experienced communicator with a passion for telling stories that shape culture and promote high performance at Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Station, in Burlington, Kansas. In this role, the Communications Manager creates compelling, engaging content for internal audiences on Evergy’s employee app, intranet and other channels. This position works closely with plant leaders and various business units throughout Wolf Creek, as well as Evergy, to tell people-focused stories and shape our culture using internal communications.
What you’ll do
• Work closely with the Manager of Communications to develop strategic communications plans and deliver communications using a variety of channels.
• Research and develop content to tell the stories of Evergy, its people, performance and programs using internal channels (employee app, intranet, digital signage, email, presentations, etc.). Employ various media (written articles, videos, infographics, etc.) to tell the story.
• Work directly with senior leaders and internal clients to develop strategic communication plans and provide counsel on strategy, positioning, messages, and media mix. Play a lead role in refueling outage communications, including production of daily outage newsletter and videos, during both planned and unplanned outages.
• Manage a variety of internal communication platforms (employee app, intranet, digital signage, email, presentations, etc.) including monitoring and measurement.
• Develop and/or coordinate internal communications related to company strategy and executive communications
• Direct and develop a variety of communication activities, including writing, editing, scripting, producing, and distributing
• Provide oversight and coordination of sitewide meetings (i.e. All Hands, Q&A sessions, etc.)
• Coordinate scheduled and unplanned executive and senior leader messaging (i.e. Plant Manager videos)
• Collaborate with internal Corporate Communications team on Wolf Creek news that should be shared/promoted company-wide
• Collaborate with social media team on any relevant Wolf Creek news that should be shared/promoted externally
• Develop creative internal marketing and promotional materials in support of communication plans
• Maintain/update site artifacts with priority messaging relative to specific focus areas (i.e. handouts, booklets, posters, signage, etc.)
• Send timely sitewide communications relative to emergent issues or lessons learned (i.e. crisis communications, Human Performance or Safety Flash)
• Develop business acumen and understanding of the company’s purpose, people and operations.
• Serve as part of our on-call rotation for after-hours needs. Support the Emergency Response Organization, and the Public Information Organization, in accordance with Emergency Plan procedures.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business communications, marketing or related field is highly preferred. At least three years of experience in internal communications, public relations, corporate communications or marketing is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
• Effective people skills and project management capabilities
• Experience in utility industry is preferred, but not mandatory
• Experience in administering communications content management systems
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
• Strong storytelling ability – creates engaging content that focuses on people
• Strong and efficient writing and editing abilities
• Ability to translate technical information into content for internal audiences
• Ability to record, edit, and produce short videos
• Demonstrated ability to manage several projects at once with attention to detail and follow-through
• Understanding of corporate communications strategy and ability to recommend communications programs and tactical suggestions
• Ability to work cross-functionally
• Highly adaptable – can thrive in a dynamic environment
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of groups
• Ability to work outside of typical business hours and flex work schedule as needed
• Enthusiasm for professional development
• Creative eye with basic graphic design skills
• Basic knowledge of content management platforms and design software
• Knowledge of visual communications (photography and video)
• Execute methods to monitor and measure the effectiveness of communication efforts
Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
Normal office working conditions. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
