Looking for a cool job? The Memorial Union Kitchen is seeking a Food Service Supervisor to be their lead in cold food production. The Garde-Manger will coordinate our cold food staff, production, and coolers. The person in this position will be a team player, have a great attitude, be efficient, organized, and willing to lead. You’ll have both full-time and student staff report to you. This position is a major part of our goal of becoming the premier food venue for the University of Wisconsin. Responsibilities: Oversees daily food service operations and performs food preparation activities in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals.
- 40% Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
- 15% Develops and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
- 10% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
- 20% Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
- 10% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
- 5% Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures

We are mostly interested in your learned and work work experience, however an Associate’s Degree, Culinary Degree or other formal training will complement your base of knowledge.
Qualifications:

*Experience in a high volume kitchen preferred
*Experience as a shift lead or supervisor preferred
License/Certification:

Hold or obtain within 3 months of hire and maintain during employment.

Work Schedule:
Core hours are Monday through Friday 8 am – 4 pm with the occasional Saturday as needed. Special event weekends like home football game weekends, Homecoming, Labor Day and Commencement are part of the schedule. Although this is the expected schedule it could vary depending on business needs.

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
