Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The RiseBoro Community Coalition is a youth substance use prevention coalition located in Brooklyn, New York. The mission is to reduce the use of e-cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, and other substances among youth in New York City. The coalition will accomplish this by building and sustaining a safe and drug-free community in which our youth feel protected, confident, and empowered to make healthy choices. The goal is to transform the environment around youth to ensure their mental health needs are supported and that the drug-free choice is the easy choice. Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the Coalition Coordinator will be a central part of this initiative. The Coalition Coordinator will oversee member recruitment and retention, coordination of coalition meetings, implementation of initiatives, and assist with reporting requirements for funders. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the creation and organization of the coalition, development of initiatives, and related program objectives
  • Partner with the Development team, Outreach Coordinator and designated committees to create, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations program and calendar
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the coalition on the use of the Strategic Prevention Framework stages and evaluating activities associated with Risk and Protective Factor priorities
  • Lead the coalition in developing and implementing evidence-based culturally responsive prevention strategies that will lead to long-term involvement of community institutions, organizations, and individuals in substance use prevention
  • Coordinate the collection of assessment and evaluation data
  • Coordinate with coalition leadership to steer the direction of the coalition, build leadership among its members, and move coalition initiatives toward sustainability
  • Liaise with community members i.e., youth, parents, clergy, law enforcement, businesses, local government, etc., to expand the reach of the coalition
  • Recruit coalition members, provide new member orientation and work to retain members
  • Design and conduct training and presentations for coalition members and the community
  • Partner with the coalition members in employee and volunteer recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training; assist in ensuring appropriate staffing for program needs
  • Partner with the coalition in obtaining financial resources; fundraising efforts and donations
  • Collaborate with subcommittee leadership to develop agendas and ensure necessary documentation of coalition meetings and initiatives
  • Partner with RiseBoro Community Affairs Division in maintaining the coalitions website, social media pages, signage, and logos
  • Create and maintain monthly coalition newsletter
  • Collaborate with RiseBoro Community Affairs Division to design and coordinate the coalitions news releases, publications, and advertisements
  • Partner with coalition subcommittees to develop materials for social norms marketing and social marketing campaigns for high school youth
  • Manage the coalitions public relations and communications campaigns; i.e., planning and implementing substance abuse prevention communication campaigns, etc.
  • Ensure coalition adherence to grant requirements, maintain accurate records, and ensure all necessary reporting requirements are completed and submitted on time
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, email software, contact management software, internet software, Excel, and Powerpoint Knowledge of Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, Graphic design, or other artistic background is a plus.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule; evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel statewide and nationally for training/conferences
  • Basic knowledge of alcohol and other drug pharmacology
  • Familiarity or experience working with schools or communities

  • Demonstrated commitment/passion for serving youth, and families and/or supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and/or bias (i.e., people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.)

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree in community organizing, social justice, social work, psychology, public health, or related field with a minimum of three (3) years relevant community outreach/organizing work experience; or Prevention Credential (CPS / CASAC-T) required
  • Masters Degree in community organizing, social justice, social work, psychology, public health, or related preferred
