CGI Federal is looking for a Database Engineer to join our team and work closely with other members of the IT team, software developers, and business users to develop and maintain efficient and effective database solutions

The Cloud Database Engineer (CDBE) designs, creates, manages, and troubleshoots cloud databases used by applications to store and retrieve data. The CDBE translates business and technical requirements into scalable and cost-effective database solutions. They also review database performance and user reports to maintain acceptable availability and performance levels.

Your future duties and responsibilities:
• Support migrating a Sybase database into a new cloud-based and innovative relational/graph hybrid database.
• Support infrastructure for the development, deployment, and testing of API services to interact with the relational/graph hybrid database.
• Refactor and migrate existing business rules and stored procedures from Sybase to run in a services layer and add any additional rules as required.
• Work with Government stakeholders to geographically replicate data in order to optimize database performance and availability.
• Synchronize data between legacy Sybase database and the relational/graph hybrid database until Sybase is retired.
• Develop the capability to monitor and report database availability and performance benchmarks.
• Ability to learn quickly, come up to speed on new database technologies

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
• 5-7 years of relevant work experience in database engineering or related fields
• Experienced with database design, normalization, and performance optimization and have an understanding of database architecture, scalability, and high availability
• In-depth knowledge of Relational Database Systems (RDS) such as PostGres, MySQL, etc.
• Experience with scripting languages such as SQL, Python, or PowerShell
• Active TS/SCI CI clearance required

Desired qualifications:
Experience with one or more of the following technologies:
• Code Mgmt: GitHub
• Configuration Automation – Ansible, Cloudformation, and Jenkins
• Binary Repo – JFrog Artifactory
• GitLab and GitHub
• CICD – Jenkins, SonarQube, Selenium
• Alerts and Monitoring – Config, CloudWatch
• AWS Cloud Native Tools – SQS, SNS, SES, Step, Lambda

CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set level, experience and training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $140,000 to $155,000.
