As the hub of campus information, Shoreline’s Strategic Communications and Marketing department administers the College’s internal and external communications, offers programmatic and departmental communications and promotional support, and enrollment marketing strategy. The department manages the website, print and online publications, advertising, social media, multimedia projects, event promotions, media relations and community outreach.

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Communications Consultant 3 – Social Media is responsible for the planning and execution of the College’s social media including capturing high quality photos and video, marketing efforts, and internal communications by leading the execution of DEIA-focused social media campaigns, and expediting ongoing internal communications to employees and students. This position balances strong social media and writing skills and a technical aptitude with a customer service mindset.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Independently establish project requirements and timelines and assist with department workflow scheduling
  • Maintains campus-wide digital assets, calendaring, and blogging tools
  • Lead departmental efforts to capture high quality photo and video to craft a variety of social media stories.
  • Generate, edit, publish and share daily social media and blog content (original text, images, video, photo, or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action with a focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Goals
  • Perform writing and editing duties relative to major communication projects; gathers information and writes, edits, lays out, and proofreads materials for reports, newsletters, magazines, news releases, web content, social media, speeches, advertising, marketing materials, radio and television announcements
  • Create and monitor all internal communication mechanisms with an eye toward improvement and goal of creating an inclusive and equitable campus culture
  • Responsible for monitoring and updating Campus Calendar, employee DAAG, and student Shoreline Today blogs.
  • Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information
  • Collaborate with other departments to manage reputation, identify key players and coordinate actions
  • Support audience targeting and segmentation that aligns with the college’s Strategic Enrollment Management plan.
  • Acts as backup to Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing for emergency communications when needed.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Photography, Filmmaking, Humanities, Public Relations, or related field
  • Three years (3) years experience with written content creation/editing OR equivialent education/experienc

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Project management principles
  • Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) products
  • Knowledge of social media planning and analytics tools (e.g.Hootsuite)
  • MailChimp
  • WordPress

EXPERIENCE/SKILL IN:

  • Progressive experience with digital photography/videography creation for social media
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Working with writing and style guidelines while incorporating effective visual and design elements across a variety of platforms
  • Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities
  • Entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within College/legal guidelines
  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication
  • Editing artistic, professional photograph and video content for social media and other marketing needs as assigned.
  • Establishing/maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels
  • Working with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner
  • Applying policies/procedures while recognizing when to seek support in decision-making

Conditions of Employment
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in an open office setting, with frequent in-person interaction and numerous interruptions, work under pressure, and handle multiple tasks/prioritize competing demands, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This position is allocated to pay range 51 under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS
A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution’s definition of full time.
A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
