Role description:

Arcadis’ Water Management team is seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join our team in Virginia.

As a Civil Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing project layouts, geometrics, and survey control; grading and drainage design; subsurface utility coordination and relocation; pavements, ground improvement measures, and slope stabilization systems; and erosion and sediment control measures. To be successful in this role you should have project experience ranging from conceptual-level planning to the preparation of detailed engineering designs and construction specifications for heavy civil infrastructure projects. You must also possess technical proficiency in at least one of the following civil design tools and the corresponding CAD platform with an interest in becoming proficient in both: Bentley® OpenRoads Designer (MicroStation Connect Edition), AutoDesk® Civil 3D (AutoCAD). Project examples include demolition, rehabilitation, and/or new construction of levees, floodwalls, waterways, reservoirs, locks, dams, drainage systems, and roadways.

This position plays an important role on our engineering teams to produce well-thought-out designs and quality drawing packages needed to control project construction and deliver critical solutions for our clients. With this in mind, the Civil Design Engineer must develop a solid awareness of the interconnections of the systems being designed to help the team manage the effects of design development and the impacts of change.

Role accountabilities:

  • Prepare engineering reports, design calculations, design drawings, and technical specifications in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers design publications, similar guidelines from other federal and/or state agencies, or international equivalents
  • Develop detailed construction quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates
  • Oversee construction and maintenance activities to ensure conformance with design drawings, and technical specifications, and construction standards.
  • Address Requests for Information (RFI) from contractors related to design and construction work
  • Provide oversight for CAD Drafters and junior engineers, and actively collaborate with other disciplines while taking the lead in delivering integrated designs and construction documents

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 years of experience with large heavy civil infrastructure projects, roadway design experience is transferrable to this type of work
  • Professional Licensure – If not already a licensed Professional Engineer in any U.S. State or territory, must have passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam and commit to taking the Professional Engineering exam within 6 months from the date of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience with large heavy civil infrastructure projects
  • Site development and utility design experience

The salary range for this position is $63,201 – $112690 per year.
