Job Overview
Shriners Children’s is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a Child Life Specialist in our Galveston, Texas location.
Responsibilities
The Child Life Specialist is responsible for the Child Life program in the hospital. The program is designed to further the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of the children experiencing health care within the facility and orient staff to the psychosocial needs of children and their families. Focusing on the mental, emotional and developmental needs of children and adolescents, using play, group activities and other forms of communication to help reduce the stress of the hospital experience. The primary goal is to facilitate trust, relieve anxiety, answer questions and provide educational experiences for the children and adolescents who are hospitalized. This position provides services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Position requires strong skills in child development, assessment and planning, psychosocial support, procedural support and preparation, group leadership, volunteer supervision and goal directed play.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development or related field, along with completion of internship and practicuum in Child Life
Certification/Licensure
Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS), or be eligible to sit for the certification exam required
Experience
One year’s experience in a hospital child life program preferred.

Current full vaccination status required
Salary
Rates for this position depend on experience and range from $22.00 – $33.00 per hour.
