A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admittance to the Florida Bar required.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience and/or expertise in contract drafting and negotiating, the competitive solicitation process under chapters 120 and 287, Florida Statutes, and rulemaking under chapter 120, Florida Statutes.
Preference will also be given to applicants with significant supervisory experience.
We seek applicants willing to commit their talents to public service and wishing to expand their skills by leading a team of lawyers dedicated to the mission of the Department. Work is performed under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsel with the expectation that the attorney filling this position will have significant latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment.
The annual salary for this position is $100,516.08.
The value of the additional state benefits (i.e., health insurance and retirement contributions, etc.) is approximately $28,325.00 (per the Florida Department of Management Services).
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
This position is located in Tallahassee.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The Florida Department of Financial Services, (Department), led by Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis, is hiring a Chief Legal Counsel for the Office of the General Counsel Contracts & Rulemaking Section. This is a high-level supervisory position representing the CFO and the Department’s 13 divisions in all aspects of contract drafting and negotiating, the competitive solicitation process under chapters 120 and 287, Florida Statutes, and rulemaking under chapter 120, Florida Statutes.
