Position Description:
The successful candidate will have experience with the management, implementation and
growth of major and planned gifts, annual giving, corporate, foundation and government grants,
special events and donor relations and stewardship. The Chief Development Officer will also
provide leadership for marketing, communications, and volunteer programs at Starfish. The
Chief Development Officer will serve as a member of the organization’s Executive Leadership
Team and oversee a team of seven professionals and support staff. The Chief Development
Officer will work closely with the Board and Development Committee of Starfish and possess the
ability to represent the organization at the highest levels in the philanthropic community.
Position Responsibilities:
In addition to management and leadership responsibilities, the Chief Development Officer will
manage a top prospect portfolio of major gift donors and prospects and develop an education and engagement strategy for community leaders and stakeholders regarding Starfish Family
Services. The successful candidate must be comfortable with face-to-face solicitations and
prospect cultivation best practices as well as building effective working relationships with Board
leadership. The Chief Development Officer will also be responsible for understanding the depth.

compelling messaging for multiple audiences.
Basic Qualifications:
Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must, along with critical thinking, creativity,
attention to detail and the ability to manage goals and objectives without supervision. Capital
Campaign planning and execution is a highly desirable attribute as well as a proven track record.

minimum of seven years’ experience in development or relevant nonprofit function and five years of senior leadership experience required.
