POSITION DESCRIPTION: This attorney serves as part of the Office of General Counsel statewide leadership team. The primary responsibility of the attorney in this position is to coordinate and direct the activities of the attorneys and support staff assigned to work in the Office of General Counsel contracts and special projects practice group. This attorney is responsible for ensuring that the legal advice provided by the Office of the General Counsel staff physically assigned to the District offices comports with the direction and advice provided on a statewide basis, as established by the General Counsel. This attorney serves as the administrative supervisor for the attorneys and support staff physically assigned to the Central office working in the contracts and special projects group. This attorney is responsible for providing day-to-day legal advice to the executive leadership of the Department.

This attorney is responsible for implementing the decisions of the General Counsel and providing direction to the legal staff statewide concerning the negotiation, drafting, and review of contracts, funding agreements, joint project agreements, joint participation agreements, intergovernmental agreements, permits, and real estate agreements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to motivate, develop, and direct staff as they work, identifying the best people for the job; knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules; ability to perform legal research and write legal memorandum; abiity to travel when required; skill in preparing for hearings; ability to handle multiple tasks; ability to organize and maintain files; ability to prioritize work assignments; skill in meeting deadlines; ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer database; knowledge of electronic mail; ability to use electronic mail; knowledge of word processing software; ability to use word processing software; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to read and comprehend written material; ability to use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to work effectively as a team member; and ability to work with internal and external customers in a tactful and courteous manner.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Must be a member of The Florida Bar.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: This position will require overnight travel. This position requires a Level I background check
