The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) leads the compliance department and oversees the compliance risk management program for Best Egg in a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative environment. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role owns the governing policies and related framework for the compliance risk oversight function and chairs the Compliance Committee. As a senior leader within the second line of defense, this role is responsible for the development and implementation strategies that enable business growth while maintaining appropriate levels of risk management. The Chief Compliance Officer provides insights and recommendations to the executive leadership team and the Board. This leader must demonstrate excellent communication and relationship management skills to interact effectively with and influence internal stakeholders, bank partners, the Board, and regulators on a frequent basis.
The compliance department serves as a key control function for Best Egg within its three lines of defense model. It provides compliance advisory services to Best Egg’s business units, monitors regulatory compliance issues and developments, leads compliance training initiatives, provides compliance monitoring and testing services, supports compliance governance activities, and engages with external parties regarding the compliance activities of the company (e.g., state exams, audits, and due diligence exercises). The CCO frequently makes presentations to senior management, the Board, bank partners and other external parties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the Compliance Risk Management Program, functioning as an independent and objective leader who reviews and evaluates compliance issues/concerns within the organization. The position ensures the Board of Directors, management, and employees comply with rules and regulations, that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organization aligns with the compliance risk management expectations.
- Manage and develop a strong, appropriately resourced, and effective compliance team. Direct the team’s work to ensure resources are prioritized in alignment with strategic business initiatives and key risks.
- Work closely with the Fair Lending Officer, Head of Enterprise Risk/Chief Privacy Officer, and other leaders across the enterprise. Review and maintain internal compliance policies to ensure they align with external regulations and Best Egg risk appetite.
- Own the Compliance roadmap, structure, and strategy for the team; create processes and enhance controls to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Monitor and review new regulations passed by state or federal governing bodies, and identify internal policies or procedures impacted by such changes.
- Carry out risk assessments, monitoring, and testing to identify areas of potential compliance risks; implement preventive/corrective strategies to address compliance issues. Collaborate across the lines of defense to raise compliance issues for investigation and sufficient corrective action and remediation.
- Anticipate emerging regulatory risks and provide proactive business insights to senior management (up to and including the Board of Directors).
- Develop the appropriate compliance training program, which includes the proper compliance courses.
- Manage and direct high quality and timely response, reporting and follow-through for state examinations conducted by various state regulators. Ensure tight timelines are met, and communicate effectively with state examiners.
- Provide advice on new business initiatives in a fast-paced setting, effectively managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Provide recommendations to executive leadership regarding the compliance risk management program and related policies and procedures to ensure the health and effectiveness of the program.

• 4-year college degree required. A master’s degree, CRCM certification or JD is preferred.
• Minimum of 10+ years of regulatory compliance experience with at least 5 years management/leadership experience, a significant portion of which has been in an organization focused on consumer lending. Experience as a CCO preferred.
• Proven track record of overseeing a compliance risk management program and developing/managing a data-driven, highly automated compliance testing program.
• Experience overseeing state and/or federal examinations and third party regulatory audits.
• Fair lending compliance program and testing experience strongly preferred.
• Experienced at interacting and engaging with colleagues from all levels of leadership across all business units and third-party stakeholders, including regulators, bank partners, lawyers, and consultants.
• Demonstrated leadership skills including self-direction, coaching, and mentoring, leading through change, effective cross-team collaboration, and credible challenge.
• Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written, fit for purpose in a wide variety of settings and audiences.

$170,000 – $220,000 a year
In addition to semi-monthly salary payments, this position is also eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance. Base salary range $170,000 – $220,000. Yearly incentive bonus target 30% of base salary. This position may also be eligible for long-term (LTIP) cash payout at 25%.
