Description
Assists in the development and programming of technology of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Records Management System (RMS), Enhanced 911 equipment, and other communications equipment and software. Performs professional technical skilled work assisting in the operation and support of the Emergency Communications Center; as directed and under the supervision of the 911 Systems Administrator and the Director of Emergency Communications.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and at least two (2) years of experience as a 911 Dispatcher in a public safety communications environment.
Thorough knowledge of Emergency Communication’s system software and computer hardware (i.e. telephone, radio, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Record Management System (RMS), mobile data terminals, paging, alarm, recording, and enhanced wireline and wireless technologies), and the implementation, operation, maintenance, and documentation of these systems.
Thorough knowledge in the preparation and maintenance of files.
General knowledge of SQL, and ability to suggest new ways to get more functionality out of existing software systems.
Knowledge of police, and fire and rescue procedures, and of the operation of related county/city and state agencies, and the services they provide to the community.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Publisher).
Comprehensive analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose technical problems.
Supplemental Information
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Requires an acceptable criminal background investigation, including an acceptable applicant fingerprint check.
The position is classified as Alpha, which means the incumbent is expected to perform assigned duties regardless of severe inclement weather or emergency conditions.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including a service vehicle, computers, radio equipment, telephone equipment, cellular telephone equipment, dispatch console equipment, 911 system equipment, and other communications equipment. Must be able to walk up and down ladders.
