The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a dedicated Business/Financial Analyst to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 23-3 with USAA. The HOH Fellowship Program builds an outstanding experience for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that increase competitiveness and improve opportunities to find meaningful employment by providing development, skills, and exposure to corporate working environment and private sector business operations. HOH Fellowship Programs are best-in-class workforce development programs that are cohort based and twelve weeks in duration.
Develops and provides financial information and analysis related to technology hardware, technology software, technology consulting, technology contract labor, and technology employee labor expenses for technology resources to drive the decision-making process and support business operations for their department.
The position is a hybrid work type and will be based in our San Antonio, Texas office. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.
What you’ll do:
- Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
- Works directly with department managers to establish, monitor, and continuously maintain current and out-year forecasts.
- Applies functional knowledge to analyze weekly/monthly financials, forecast trends to identify financial risks and opportunities as well as coordinate corrections in cooperation with CFO.
- Participates in continuous budgeting and pricing exercises, to include EOY adjustment exercises, to provide CFO an accurate and complete budget for the upcoming year in accordance with CFO and corporate timelines.
- On a monthly basis, monitors invoices and purchase orders, ensuring accurate receipt, classification, and payment, including any required end of month accruals.
- Sets up future prepaid and depreciation schedules.
- Provides training to new department managers regarding USAA IT financial processes.
- May interact with or present to managers and directors.
- Assists with regular workforce tracking and reporting, to include OneSource position maintenance, 3P tracking, Agile team analysis, and forecasting
- Sets up leases in leasing tool (CoStar) and reconciles lease payments.
- Handles all financial and workforce related activities related to department and unit changes (re-orgs, unit changes, etc.).
- Assists in analyzing, tracking and forecasting IT expenses up to a Service level that can be billed to the consumer.
- Understands and assists with Service Market Comps and affiliate agreements/thresholds.
- Develops accurate and credible financial plans that are actionable and support the IT business strategy (provided above).
- Performs financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking (provided above).
- Identifies and handles existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field; OR 4+ years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 4+ years of related financial process experience to include experience with expense budgeting and forecasting practices.
- Understanding of the application of Technology Business Management methodologies.
- Experience with Apptio or comparable technology business management application.
- Proven understanding of Information Technology terminology and financial processes.
- Proven experience with finance and accounting within an IT organization.
- Proven experience in application of budget management, reporting and/or forecasting best practices
- Ability to analyze, describe, and evaluate data to recommend solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

What we offer:
Hiring Our Heroes Fellows are paid by the HOH program.
If selected for a full-time role, USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The hiring range for this position is: $59,070 – $106,340.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
