University Financial Services (UFS)
The University Financial Services Division at the University of Denver provides a wide range of business, administrative, and support services to faculty, staff, and students in a high-quality, effective, and efficient manner. It supports the teaching and research mission of the University by enabling unit-level staff to access and transact support services easily and readily for faculty, staff, and/or students. The department provides successful leadership and management of infrastructure functions delivering effective, efficient, and value-adding services and processes to the institution that are directly aligned to customer needs.
Information Technology/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS)
Dedicated to quality, innovation, engagement, integrity, and inclusion, Information Technology/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS) maintains the highest standards in providing a wide range of software solutions to units throughout the University. IT/EAS maintains software systems that support the University’s core business as well as develops custom applications in partnership with DU departments to enhance services to our community. Our services range from consultation to implementation to continuous support of software solutions. Services include:

IT/EAS ensures the current and future software applications are efficient and effective, maintains an appropriate balance between leading-edge activities and core business processes, and provides appropriate information access and data security.
IT/EAS is responsible for all aspects of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Database Management, Data Warehouse administration, Information Analytics (BI), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, Learning Management System (LMS), Document Management, and Workflow.
Position Summary
The Business Analyst reports to the IT/Enterprise Application Services (IT/EAS) department within the central technology division of Information Technology (IT). The Business Analyst is physically located in University Financial Services (UFS) and works in close collaboration with the teams in IT/EAS and the UFS staff.
The Business Analyst is primarily responsible for the configuration and support of multiple applications (e.g. Ellucian Banner, UKG Time and Attendance, etc.), business process needs analysis, and data reporting and analysis. This position will interface with UFS, software vendors, and IT/EAS application developers to maintain and support applications and interfaces. This position will also be responsible for responding to production support issues, coordinating system enhancements and upgrades, writing ad-hoc reports, managing cross-functional projects, and providing day-to-day application support to the UFS staff.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the functional subject matter expert of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), including but not limited to the HR and Payroll modules within the University’s ERP, Ellucian Banner, and UKG Time and Attendance.
- Perform configuration tasks to satisfy requests from end users for enhancements and fixes.
- Manage software installation and configuration on related hardware.
- Identify, gather, and document business requirements from users and stakeholders.
- Work with IT/EAS to coordinate design, testing, and deployment of system enhancements, process automations, and integrations between these and other systems.
- Develop test use cases and perform user acceptance testing for upgrades and enhancements.
- Track and document changes in functional requirements and write detailed procedures that can be easily understood by users.
- Oversee user and license management, including new user setup/deactivation, roles, profiles, and permissions.
- Perform frequent data quality checks to ensure system data is accurate.
- Provide enterprise-wide tier-2 and tier-3 application support. Develop recommendations and coordinate issue resolution with IT/EAS and software vendors. Troubleshoot, identify and track software issues to ensure resolution. Document and communicate problem resolutions.
- Analyze and evaluate current business processes, workflows, reports, and tools. Make recommendations for development, improvement, or simplification.
- In partnership with UFS staff, develop appropriate training materials to support end-user training.
- Research, configure, and schedule standardized reports within the applications.
- Create ad-hoc reports, data queries, standard reports, and dashboards to support business needs.
- Responsible for multiple projects or large complex projects with cross-functional teams.
- Primary technology liaison between UFS, IT/EAS, and software vendors.
- Coordinate regularly scheduled meetings with UFS and IT/EAS.
- Partner with UFS and IT/EAS teams to prioritize projects using the IT prioritization rubric.

Required Qualifications
Business Analyst I
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a business analyst position
- Entry level to 2 years of experience or coursework specific to business analysis
Business Analyst II
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a business analyst position
- 3-5 years of experience as an application administrator or business analyst
- Experience with SQL
Preferred Qualifications
Business Analyst I
- Degree in business administration, computer information systems, management information systems, or other related field
- Experience with SQL and reporting software (Cognos, Tableau, etc.)
- Experience working with human resources information systems
- Experience in a higher education working environment
Business Analyst II
