JOB TITLE: BUILDING AUTOMATION INTERN

INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

Assist project teams with building automation start-up functions based on project plans, specifications, and other contract documents. Support project documentation and aide engineering teams with as-built drawings and other items as required. Basic training related to industry-specific internship responsibilities provided.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Assist Controls Technicians and Project Engineers with field tasks
  • Checkout of building control components
  • Startup of building control and energy management systems
  • Learn and become proficient in use of building automation programs to set up trend logs, alarms, schedules, and user profiles
  • Support field documentation and update drawings as required
  • Manage time to complete assignments on time and within scope

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently when provided with direction
  • Eagerness to learn new systems and concepts
  • Accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness
  • Proficiency in basic computer hardware and software skills, including Word and Excel
  • Practical skills with basic hand tools preferred (i.e. screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, etc.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires a combination of working in an office environment and routine visits to project job sites. Project job sites may present typical construction and outdoor conditions that require the use of personal protective equipment for safety purposes. Lifting and exerting up to 20 pounds of force. Use of ladders up to 12-feet.

POSITION TYPE AND HOURS:

  • Temporary position with option of part- or full-time hours
  • Standard work week is Monday-Friday from 7am-4pm

POSITION TYPE AND HOURS:

  • Compensation between $20-$30 / hourly depending on experience and education
  • Position does not include benefits

TRAVEL:

  • Travel to local project sites in the Puget Sound area required

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Undergraduate study in field of engineering preferred
  • Experience working in building systems or other technical fields
  • Equivalent combination of education, work, volunteer, or hobby experience
  • Experience using AutoCAD preferred but not required
