Director of Enterprise Application Services

Position Description

As a Director of Enterprise Application Services, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities during specific timeframes:

  • First 30 days
    • Focus on learning about the company and your role
    • Complete all company and department-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) and trainings
    • Learn about your team structure and the individuals who are part of it
    • Discover the systems that are used in the company
    • Understand the processes that the company follows
  • Within 60 days
    • Contribute to the company’s mission and the department’s objectives
    • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s people, systems, and processes
    • Identify gaps and recommend solutions to address them
    • Suggest process improvements to optimize efficiency and productivity
    • Provide growth and training opportunities to the team
    • Propose application system upgrades to enhance performance and capabilities
  • Before the end of 90 days
    • Use your knowledge and experience gained in the first 60 days to lead the Enterprise Networking team.
    • Employ appropriate and effective leadership strategies.
    • Leverage your newfound expertise to guide the team towards success.
    • Apply the lessons learned in the initial period to improve team performance
    • Continuously assess and adjust your approach to ensure optimal results
  • Ongoing
    • Lead and manage the Enterprise Application Services team, ensuring the provision of appropriate application services, support, and development to customers in a timely manner
    • Establish strong working relationships within the company and act as a trusted advisor on enterprise application services, support, and development matters
    • Collaborate with leadership to create a roadmap for our global application services architecture, capacity, and performance to meet customers’ present and future needs
    • Manage the selection and development of people, resources, and budgets necessary to perform departmental functions
    • Create, edit, and implement company policies related to the department in conjunction with leadership
    • Assign duties and provide work direction to department personnel
    • Make technical suggestions regarding modifications to documentation, product performance, and failure analysis
    • Monitor work procedures, schedules, and workflow expeditiously
    • Monitor service calls and tickets to observe team member demeanor, technical accuracy, and adherence to company policies
    • Manage after-hours support, staffing, and operation to ensure that calls are properly documented and followed up during regular working hours
    • Train personnel on all procedures and processes related to Enterprise Application Services
    • Help design and implement overall strategic direction for the architecture, platforms, and common application services that operate across our production data centers and public cloud
    • Maintain relationships with key vendors to understand their product roadmap and life cycles to guide our technology stack into the future
    • Evaluate new and emerging technology and create roadmaps for their incorporation to evolve our public and private cloud systems
    • Create seamless experiences for infrastructure services between private and public cloud
    • Adopt a security and compliance first mindset to ensure that programs around threat management and vulnerability management are integrated into our application systems
    • Produce and present reports on the overall operational health, support services, and any issues related to the supported enterprise applications
    • Keep up to date with relevant technologies, as assigned
    • Review governing regulations to ensure proper program compliance
    • Monitor, update, and maintain existing legacy environment software systems interfaces to ensure that the interfaces exchange data properly and support the current legacy environment
    • Maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs), System Availability, Capacity Management, and Performance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
    • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure proper integration of the environment
    • Work closely with application administration and development teams and vendors to tune and troubleshoot applications
    • Plan and coordinate testing changes, upgrades, and new services to ensure that systems will operate correctly in current and future environments
    • Provide Level 3 support for application services and enable the production support team to address Level 1 and 2 support and issues
    • Lead and participate in efforts to develop and implement processes for application and system monitoring
    • Lead and participate in efforts to implement application updates, including upgrades, patches, and new releases
    • Test, debug, implement, and document programs and assist in modifying company products and customer and internal systems to meet the needs of the client and end-user
    • Develop and maintain the reporting and dashboard infrastructure for the organization
    • Be fully responsible for problem management activities such as issue resolution and root cause analysis
    • Be responsible for any other activities, as assigned

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • More than 10 years of experience or equivalent working in an Information Technology (IT) or IT-related field
  • More than seven years of hands-on work within large-scale application support or development environments
  • More than five years of IT management, preferably for large agile teams
  • Demonstrate experience in mentoring and people management
  • Design, implement and maintain modern applications such as ServiceNow, Elasticsearch, and Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP)
  • Have hands-on experience in process automation, best practice approaches, technology efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Understand software and hardware requirements for various departmental processes and functions
  • Understand workflow and process requirements of complex application systems
  • Be a subject matter expert in supporting, maintaining, and administering complex applications
  • Excel at the highest technical level of all phases of application systems analysis and programming activities
  • Have strong experience in failover, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity
  • Possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools
  • Possess good knowledge and demonstrated troubleshooting abilities for connectivity and performance issues
  • Have experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and methodologies
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills
  • Have the ability to effectively interface with technical and non-technical staff at all organizational levels
  • Possess the ability to provide outstanding customer service, be a good listener, and work well with others
  • Be self-motivated, able to work independently, and take initiative
  • Possess outstanding attention to detail with superior time and project management skills
  • Have the ability to learn new skills and new applications quickly as required
  • Always maintain a professional attitude and work habits
  • Possess the ability to understand how supported applications can improve and enhance business processes
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate within the Enterprise Infrastructure team and cross-functional groups, including Project Management, Sales, and Operations
  • Be capable of addressing multiple simultaneous requests in a calm manner and prioritizing work in a fast-paced environment
  • Be able to communicate technical solutions and problems to non-technical teams
  • On-going training and certifications may be required

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Relevant certifications
  • Intimate familiarity with the administration, support, and development of ServiceNow, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and SAP software applications
  • Knowledge of on-premises and cloud-connected enterprise infrastructure systems including hyper-converged systems, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, web and SPAM filters, load balancers, server, and desktop virtualization, and cloud computing
  • Knowledge of on-premises and cloud-connected enterprise infrastructure software including operational systems such as Microsoft Windows and Linux/UNIX, patch management, virus protection, Microsoft Office platforms like SharePoint and Teams, Active Directory and Azure Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Microsoft Exchange, ID management systems, and various database platforms like Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Postgress
  • Knowledge of server and network security including schemes like role- or rule-based ACLs, logical and physical level security, anti-virus end-point protection, and SSL encryption and certificates

Benefits

The base compensation range for this role is $100000 – $160000 / year for the position in California. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries in Californiabased on the date of this job posting.
