Description

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is responsible for the safe and efficient response and transport of the EMS Provider and all persons requiring non-emergent medical services. The EMR will also function as the Chair Car Operator and will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of all disabled, handicapped, or elderly persons assigned to their care both to and from their destination.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The primary functional responsibilities as an EMR include, but are not limited to:
    • Functions within the scope of practice set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 105 CMR: Department of Public Health.
    • Complete vehicle and equipment checklists to ensure compliance with required stock on the ambulance and maintain proper function.
    • Operate the ambulance per safety rules and regulations; company policies; federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and statutes.
    • Complete a vehicle and equipment checklist at the beginning of each assigned shift. Inspect and clean the assigned vehicle and all equipment. Ensure compliance with minimum stock requirements, proper function, and cleanliness of all equipment.
    • Effective communicator.
    • Provide exceptional customer service.
    • Assist with ensuring all appropriate paperwork is collected and complete to ensure timely adequate billing.
    • Be knowledgeable of and comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Daily housekeeping duties and other duties as assigned.
    • Must maintain a reliable attendance record.
  • The primary functional responsibilities as a Chair Car Operator include, but are not limited to:
    • Respond promptly to all assigned calls.
    • Attend to the patient in a courteous manner.
    • Move patient via wheelchair in a safe, professional manner.
    • Perform daily routine checks of the vehicle and record results on the required checklist.
    • Inspect and clean vehicle daily.
    • Complete and submit all paperwork requirements daily.
    • Operate the vehicle safely and courteously adhering to company driving policies.
    • Operate the lift mechanism of the vehicle.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.
    • Must maintain a reliable attendance record.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The Requirements to maintain employment will include:
    • At minimum 18 years of age.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Provide an acceptable driving record.
    • Successful completion of the training required by 105 CMR 171.000: Massachusetts First Responder Training and retain certification.
    • Valid AHA BLS Provider CPR Certification and maintain certification.
    • Must be able to pass a recent background check.
    • Must be able to provide a copy of all immunization records.
    • Ability to safely lift 250 pounds on a stretcher with assistance from your partner.
    • Ability to safely carry 250 pounds on a stair chair with your partner up and down two flights of stairs.
    • Ability to safely transfer 250 pounds via necessary means.
    • Ability to adapt and work in different environments and situations.
    • Must be able to lift and maneuver 250 pounds with assistance and without difficulty.
    • Must be able to maneuver a patient-loaded wheelchair up and down three stairs without difficulty.
    • Must be able to sit for long periods.
    • Must be able to walk without difficulty and without affecting the immediate performance of job-related duties.
