Summary
Under general supervision, responsible for maintaining, installing and troubleshooting all plant instrumentation and other control systems. Develops and understanding of all plant processes and the equipment used to control those processes. Supports the maintenance of plant equipment to ensure a minimum of downtime. This position serves as the entry point for the plant’s controls technician and instrument technician positions.
Essential Functions
This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
- Participates in designing controls, scheduling the installation, and monitoring the startup of small-scale projects.
- Installs and maintains pneumatic and electronic process control instruments.
- Traces and corrects control loop malfunctions, and provides assistance to maintenance and production teams concerning instrument systems.
- Repairs, calibrates and cleans all instruments, pressure switches, flow tubes and gauges to ensure minimal downtime and efficient utilization of pneumatic and electronic equipment.
- Participates in giving direction to plant electricians and mechanics as needed to complete repairs.
- Isolates and corrects defective valves, broken diaphragms contaminated systems, improperly working electronic units, and other malfunctions on inefficient processes.
- Prepares reports and maintains historical records of problems and causes for specified preventative maintenance or troubleshooting assignments.
- Participates in designing component changes on replacement devices for more efficient and accurate usage.
- Supports Controls Technicians and Instrument Technicians with assigned tasks.
- Creates simple programs for Allen Bradley programmable logic controllers.
- Installs and troubleshoots Allen Bradley programmable logic controllers; navigates the programs to troubleshoot process upsets.
- Creates projects for Allen Bradley PanelView HMIs; installs and troubleshoots PanelView HMIs.
- Programs parameters and troubleshoot variable frequency drives.
- Reads and troubleshoots instruments using electrical ladder schematics.
- Participates in the installation and maintenance of process control instruments, both electronic and pneumatic.
- Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory consideration.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 2 years of experience working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment.
- Required to fluently read, write, and comprehend the English language.
- Climb stairs and ladders; comfortable working at heights.
- Skilled in the use of programmable logic controllers (preferably Allen Bradley).
- Knowledge of variable frequency drives.
- Skilled in writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers..
- Available for 24-hour on-call shifts, swing and graveyard shifts.
- Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

Preferred Qualifications
- College level courses in electronics, pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience completing the required paperwork associated with instrumentation duties.
- Experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Experience to writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Experience to speaking effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Skilled in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Skilled in applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Experience interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Knowledge of motor control and automated control circuits.
- Skilled in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access and MS PowerPoint at a basic level.
- Knowledge of HMI, SCADA and computer network communication systems.

Compensation:
- Hiring Salary Range Posted: $31.39 -$42.36 / hour
- Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
