Why does the job exist?

The Attorney II is responsible for:

  • Representing the State of New Mexico, Human Services Department (HSD) and Child Support Enforcement Division (CSED) in court proceedings.

How does it get done?

The Attorney II will:

  • Represent the State of NM, HSD and CSED in court proceedings;
  • Establish paternity;
  • Establish and enforce child support orders.
  • Draft legal documents;
  • Review legal documents;
  • Evaluate legal documents.

Who are the customers?

  • Citizens of New Mexico;
  • Parties of child support cases;
  • Child Support Enforcement Division (CSED) management and staff.
  • Other states and countries pursuant to the Hague treaty.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited institution;
  • Family law experience;
  • The ability to work in a high volume practice;
  • A license to practice law;
  • The alternative ability to obtain a Limited License to practice law.
  • Minimum Qualification

    Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and two (2) years of experience in the practice of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA).     Employment Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers license
  • Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.
  • Working Conditions

    Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
