Position Announcement
The School of the Arts seeks a dynamic and experienced administrator to be the Associate Director for the UVU Museum of Art at Lakemount. Under the direction of the Museum Executive Director, the Associate Director is responsible for the management and administrative direction of daily operations for the UVU Museum of Art. This position assists with strategic planning, provides organizational leadership, and participates in long-range planning and overall management of the Museum, including implementation of strategic objectives and initiatives. Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the Associate Director manages and implements the creative and administrative functions of the UVU Museum of Art, including overseeing and collaborating with staff on curation, exhibitions, collections management, installations, visitor services, volunteers, finances, retail operations, communication, and outreach. The Associate Director manages the development, oversight, and implementation of the Museum’s educational programs and outreach consistent with the mission of the Museum and University. The Associate Director serves as the contact for artists, collectors, students, and visitors.
The UVU Museum of Art (formerly Woodbury Art Museum) is part of the School of the Arts at Utah Valley University. It is a dynamic institution recognized for engaged and diverse exhibitions, programs, and partnerships. Since the museum’s founding in 2002, it has been an important place for the stewardship of art and education. Summary of Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, manages and implements the creative and administrative functions of the Museum, including developing, planning, curating, and scheduling museum exhibitions and programs as well as overseeing collections management, and installation. Responsible for all artworks on site and/or loan, including preservation, coordination, installation, and arranging transport.

- Manages the development, oversight, and implementation of the Museum’s educational programs and outreach consistent with the mission of the Museum and University.
- Oversees visitor services, volunteers, communication, and outreach. In partnership with the Visitor Services Coordinator, leads community outreach and involvement. Develops opportunities that support the Museum’s learning initiatives and outreach programming.
- Ensures best practices are used in each area of museum work. Ensures the museum remains open during all public hours. Serves on the Museum Advisory Committee and other committees or boards as designated by the Executive Director.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in Museum Studies or closely related field. At least 3 years of full-time staff level experience at an art museum.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of museum studies and a strong background in the arts/art history.
- Working knowledge of current museum best practives, including object handling.
- Knowledge and experience in managerial and/or administration in museums/academic settings.
- Knowledge of museum education methods and practices.
- Experience with community outreach.
Skills:
- Advanced skills in strategic thinking, writing and administration.
- Advanced interpersonal skills.
- Broad knowledge of art techniques, museum practice, and museum education pedagogy.
- Integrate knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion with museum programming and outreach to create inclusive experiences for the campus and community.
Abilities:
