Job Description

The University of Missouri is seeking an individual to fill the position of Associate Director for Public Affairs. In this role, the successful candidate will serve as the secondary representative of the university to the media, assist the Director with identifying emerging issues that could impact higher education and recommend public communication strategies to effectively convey the university’s position or perspective. This position also will serve a key role when the university is responding to crisis communications, including overseeing the MU Alert response and working with the Director and other key university officials during larger emergencies. The Associate Director will collaborate to create a regular report on emerging issues that will be shared with top university administration.

Responsibilities/Description:
• Regularly meet with key university leaders (Student Affairs, Operations, Enrollment Management, etc.) and maintain relationships to facilitate good communications for responding to general requests, issues inquiries or crises.
• Work with Director to develop recommendations and advise on responses for external requests for information.
• Serve as the secondary representative for the university to the media.
• Assist with MU Alert and crisis communications. Collaborate with JOSCM team closely during crises.
• Facilitate media interviews and develop preparation materials as tasked by Director.

Salary

Salary Range: $75,000 – $105,000

Grade: GGS-12

University Title: Associate Director Strategic Communications

M-F 8a-5p, Some after hours will be required

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
