We’re looking for an Associate Director of Communications to join our Strategic Communications team. In this role you will develop, execute, and assess proactive communications strategies aimed at enhancing our brand and elevating our reputation on a local, national, and global scale. You will partner with the Director of Strategic Communications to collaborate with other department leaders on strategic school-wide communications initiatives.
You will bring media relations experience, creativity, intellectual curiosity, and an ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. You will need to be able to think about the big picture while also managing a steady flow of inquiries and requests. You’re confident and comfortable working with reporters on deadline. You have excellent judgment and you are able to understand the perspectives of a diverse set of constituents. You have experience in integrating earned media initiatives into broader communications campaigns. You have strong collaboration skills, and the ability to partner across the GSB and Stanford University on initiatives and campaigns.
CORE DUTIES
- Help plan, oversee, and execute school-wide proactive media relations campaigns.
- Create compelling written communications for the media, sometimes under pressure.
- Leverage relationships with key reporters and editors, media, community and government leaders.
- Build relationships with faculty members to help promote academic thought-leadership and research to external audiences and media outlets.
- Help develop strategic communication plans with methods for measuring the plan’s impact on the school.
- Participate in the development of key messages and strategies to communicate complex information to multiple audiences and constituencies through a wide variety of communications platforms, including digital, print and news media.
- Work with the Director of Strategic Communications to develop strategies for crisis communications and issues management, and be able to help direct response.
- Provide media training and guidance to faculty, staff, and students.
- Partner closely with the university’s communications office to ensure consistent and complementary strategic plans with overall university outreach and communications.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Proven ability to maintain and leverage relationships with journalists and media outlets.
- Ability to synthesize complex ideas and translate them for relevant audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A growth mindset and intellectual curiosity.
- An ability to think strategically, as well as execute.
- Strong influencing, negotiating, and relationship management skills.
- A collaborative, can-do attitude.
The expected pay range for this position is $99,000 to $135,000 per annum.
