Department Summary

The Department of SSEM Strategic Communications and Marketing (SC) is charged with helping market the University of Oregon (UO) to a broad range of audiences, positioning the university as a premier public university to attract and enroll prospective undergraduate students. The department utilizes and manages a comprehensive suite of communications tools, including public relations, branding, advertising, digital media, and more for the benefit of the university.
Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Production and Client Services (assistant director) manages SSEM Strategic Communications and Marketing’s (SC) project management system and leads efforts to support all SC employees by activating and tracking their work consistently. The assistant director serves as the lead administrator and has full oversight of the project management system.

This position will develop training guidance and collaborative relationships with users, maintain successful use and administration of the project management systems, and will be expected to exercise discretion and decision-making depending on the goals of an assignment or situation.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing, the assistant director is responsible for communicating to multiple internal audiences on behalf of the AVP ensuring that efforts are coordinated for SSEM leadership and units. This position will maintain, and support division-wide policies and procedures related to marketing and branding and oversee content updates and self-training on SSEM websites.

This position works with and manages high-impact projects and sensitive and confidential information. The assistant director is responsible for operational management, tracking, and more detailed support needed to activate major marketing and branding initiatives.

The assistant director position is hybrid/remote eligible with supervisor and department head approval.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, writing, public relations, or related discipline OR five years of professional experience working in the areas of communications, marketing, project management, or public relations.
• Three years of professional experience as a communications professional for an organization which involved gathering information, writing and producing materials, presenting information to the public, and handling communications, marketing, or public relations, with an emphasis on project management.

• Experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Success working in a team environment and ability to work cooperatively with individuals in a service-oriented environment.
• Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to produce high-volume, high-quality work in a rapidly changing environment.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, project management applications, and web-based content management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
• Project management and client management experience.
• Experience in developing or leading efforts to implement system-wide technologies and willingness to learn emerging media.
• Experience working in marketing and communications in higher education.
• Experience working with contracted vendors.
• Experience leading team training.
• Experience working with executives and serving as team lead for administrative needs.
• Experience in leveraging technology communication tools.
