8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Monday-Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for assisting in digital marketing and communication efforts for assigned departments within Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs, including Undergraduate Admissions, Enrollment Programs & Communications, and the University Scholarship Office. Responsibilities include email management (including craft, editing, and sending), website management, social media management (strategy and implementation), and digital marketing strategy and implementation. Additionally, the Assistant Director is the primary manager of the Social Media Ambassador program. As a member of Enrollment Communications, this person may be involved with the training and supervision of student staff and participates on various projects and committees as directed.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a closely related field and two years of experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for assisting in digital marketing and communication efforts for assigned departments within Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs, including Undergraduate Admissions, Enrollment Programs & Communications, and the University Scholarship Office. Reporting to the Associate Director of Enrollment Communications, the Assistant Director:
- Drives email strategy for assigned partners, through crafting, editing, and coordinating feedback, and sending messages.
- Serves as primary website manager for assigned partners, through updating and editing websites.
- Directly manages social media for Undergraduate Admissions and Enrollment Programs & Communications, including determining strategy, creating content, posting, and reviewing analytics.
- Assists the Associate Director in developing and implementing paid digital marketing and paid social media marketing strategies.
- Supervises the undergraduate Social Media Interns, including training and development, weekly individual and team meetings, managing their projects and outputs, and reviewing reporting and analytics related to their role.
- Co-leads the Social Media Ambassador program with the Associate Director, including student employee and volunteer supervision, training development, content review, and other needs as determined by the program.
- Utilizes bulk email platforms (e.g., Marketing Cloud, Slate), website content management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress), digital marketing measurement tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and paid social media advertising platforms to complete assigned work.
- Maintains knowledge of strategic goals of enrollment management and best practices in the communications field for large audiences and discerns appropriate and most effective communication channels.
- Utilizes data to inform communications strategy for assigned partners, including developing metrics, compiling reports, and sharing information in written and oral formats.
- Independently works with Enrollment Programs & Communications team and partners to provide solutions requiring attention to detail, ability to interpret information, critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving skills.
- Participates in Enrollment Management and University committees as assigned.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Four-year degree in communications, marketing, graphic design or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated experience with communications and design tools, including-but not limited to-Slate, Salesforce and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).
- Commitment to customer service, diversity, and teamwork.
- Understanding of digital marketing techniques, including social media, web, and video.
- Experience writing, editing, and publishing content, with educational environments a plus.
- Prior experience working with student employees.
