Assistant Director of Athletics Communications – University of Alabama

The assistant director of athletics communications will serve as the primary media contact for the women’s basketball program, as well as an additional sport(s) yet to be determined. This position will work closely with the head coach, assistant coaches and student-athletes while serving as the primary daily liaison with local and national media along with maintaining the women’s basketball social media accounts (@AlabamaWBB), generating content ideas and help with program’s brand management. Among other day-to-day duties include, writing and designing media guides, record books and game notes, as well as coordinating player and coach interviews, producing press releases and generating story ideas and features.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant fields and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the collegiate or professional athletics communications field; OR Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or relevant fields and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the collegiate or professional athletics communications field. Ability to form relationships with members of the local and national media. Experience in Adobe software including InDesign and Photoshop, NCAA Genius scoring software, Sidearm, and editing and design of publications and printed materials. Excellent oral and organizational skills. Strong written communication skills. Technical writing skills. Excellent interpersonal skills that foster good relations with coaches, staff, student-athletes and fans/consumers.
