SALARY RANGE: $88,230 – $115,802

LOCATION: 2 Broadway

HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am – 5:00pm (7 1/2 hours/day)

SUMMARY:

With a proven record in the field of Government & Community Relations the candidate for this position will advocate for the millions of people that ride the MTA transportation system, design outreach strategies gather community input and gain community consensus, and work collaboratively with colleagues, community boards, state agencies and other civic organizations to gather information and make the best decisions for MTA ridership and communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage activities and outreach to co-design solutions to problems that affect NYC communities.
  • Cultivate public understanding and support for MTA wide transportation issues, policies and projects.
  • Communicate independently with elected officials and their staff, community boards, civic associations, special interest groups and constituents.
  • Lead community-based initiatives, share information, and collect important feedback to accurately gauge community concerns.
  • Provide a balanced approach to managing stakeholder’s priorities and needs in the context of getting results that are in the best interest of customers.
  • Ensure MTA’s communications’ strategic intent and reputation is protected throughout the process, from conception to final delivery to the public and employees.
  • Devise strategies to effectively address community concerns around service changes and construction projects.
  • May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)
  • Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Expert community/political consensus building and decision-making skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability synthesize technical information into understandable PowerPoint presentations as required.
  • Ability to coordinate timely and effective responses to correspondence.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal legislative and political processes.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
  • Ability research and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Strong staff management capabilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Background in one or more of the following areas: Government Relations, Legislative Affairs, External Communications, Internal Communications, Political Communications, Government agency, and Community based outreach and public relations.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related experience.

OTHER INFORMATION:

As an employee of MTA Headquarters, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $108,638 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
