The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director. This is a one-year internship funded primarily through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant program. The position offers the candidate the opportunity to immerse themselves in all aspects of collegiate athletic administration at the conference level. The intern will receive a well-rounded experience in the areas of championships, strategic planning, membership educational services, event planning & management, student-athlete advisory committee, sports information, and general athletic administration. The intern will also be allowed creativity and flexibility in taking on additional projects. The position reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Commissioner. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION (funded through NCAA Div. III Ethnic Minorities & Women’s Internship Grant)

1. Championship & Playoffs and Special Events Director (20%) – Work with conference staff and host institutions to oversee conference championships and playoffs including budget, event operations and game management. Identify opportunities for championship enhancement and improved student-athlete experiences. Take the lead role in running conference golf and swimming & diving championships.
2. Strategic Planning (15%) – Assist in developing all elements of the next Conference strategic plan.
3. Streaming Network (15%) – Serve as primary conference liaison to membership and Hudl/BlueFrame for MIAC streaming network. Work with sports information directors to establish and support streaming standards and expectations.
4. Communications: Media Relations / Sports Information (15%) – Assist in all areas of communications and sports information, including assisting with social media, awards, feature story writing, and website updates. Focus on branding the conference by creating strategies and integrating campaigns with brand consistency, while assisting in developing brand standards and usage guidelines.
5. Membership Educational Services (10%) – Plan and oversee educational seminars for membership on a variety of subjects. Assist in developing compliance officer educational seminars (two per year). Assist the Commissioner with NCAA and MIAC rules education and interpretations along with assistance in eligibility, compliance education, and legislation.
6. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (10%) – Plan inclusive programming for membership. Connect with campus ADIDs. Assist member campuses with the NCAA DEI framework review.
7. Conference SAAC Advisor (5%) – Organize and lead Conference student athlete advisory committee meetings. Plan ongoing communications with SAAC regarding NCAA and MIAC items. Solicit SAAC voice and impact statements on NCAA and MIAC proposals. Coordinate projects with Special Olympics. Establish additional student-athlete services and educational opportunities.
8. Additional Duties/Projects to be assigned by the Commissioner (10%) – Additional items may include: compliance, scheduling, officiating, finances, awards, grants, film exchange, coaches meeting notes and leadership initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred. Applicants should have a minimum of two years experience in athletic administration and a desire to work in college athletics as an administrator. Candidates must demonstrate excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
