Position Announcement

The UVU School of the Arts seeks an Assistant Dean to serve as a champion for community engagement and outreach across the School of the Arts. Under the direction of the dean of the School of the Arts (SOA), the assistant dean is responsible for providing leadership and operational support services. Through close collaboration with The Museum of Art, The Noorda, the SOA academic units, and the TYE Center, the Assistant Dean will develop and implement strategies focusing on community engagement, fundraising, and SOA brand awareness. The Assistant Dean will

  • Build relationships with schools, community groups, studios, businesses, and other entities for the following purposes: recruitment; increasing attendance at performances, exhibitions, and events; facilitating partnerships; creating sponsorships and/or venue rental opportunities.
  • Serve as an SOA ambassador to promote the academic programs in the community, ensuring their reputations are well known and establishing relationships with potential employers, donors, and sponsors.
  • Work with the academic departments and the executive directors of the Noorda Center and Museum of Art to arrange and coordinate guest and visiting artist experiences, including performances, workshops, lectures, press events, and other engagements to enhance UVU student experiences and as a form of recruitment.
  • Strategize, coordinate, and facilitate events where SOA students and faculty teach, conduct demonstrations, or perform in the community, including K-12 schools.
  • Coordinate events for K-12 students and teachers on campus to engage with current UVU students and faculty (i.e., workshops, performances, exhibitions).
  • Develop, implement, and execute student recruitment strategies.
  • Work in partnership with SOA Leadership and Institutional advancement to support their goals.
  • Represent the School of the Arts at various functions within the university and in the community.
  • Contribute as an integral member of school leadership.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements community engagement goals and recruitment strategies across SOA, including strategic plans and objectives. Inform all efforts with considerations for equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • In partnership with SOA leadership, initiates and maintains cooperative relationships with industry partners, external constituencies, and businesses as appropriate.
  • Works in partnership with SOA leadership and marketing to elevate brand awareness, increase and develop audiences, and enhance engagement.
  • Works in partnership with SOA leadership and Institutional Advancement to support institutional fundraising goals. Work with SOA and director of development to facilitate sponsorships and grants.
  • Contributes as an integral member of school leadership. Represents the dean at various functions within the university and in the community. Attends and serves as a liaison for the dean on community board and outreach projects, as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree and at least two years of full-time experience related to community engagement in the arts. Experience in higher education preferred. Experience in recruitment preferred.
